Seems like Torguard was sued for their users Bittorrent traffic and now has reached a settlement to block Bittorrent traffic on their service.

Did they get made to pay any amount of money as well?

That sounds like a great win for them if they managed to get away with just preventing it going forward, and IMO sets a good precedant for providers not getting completely screwed by user actions. Even if the film studios did ultimately win the case.

  • TorGuard will "use commercially reasonable efforts to block BitTorrent traffic on its servers in the United States using firewall technology," reveal the documents:

Well, it seems like one can just use another country server for Linux ISOs.

  • I have never used Tor. I'm curious, can one use BitTorrent through Tor?

This isn't TOR Browser, this is TorGuard VPN is something different.

  • A service in need to call itself "Tor"VPN can only be bad.

I never used them but I thought they were rather popular (in the past?).

does this mean people would stop using them because they don't allow Linux ISOs?

I could imagine at least a fair amount of people (of any VPN provider) would have used such service for this sole purpose. So, yes. It could lead to a decrease in users. I doubt that all their users would just leave them over this, though.

I guess they're at least as popular as the other VPN providers flexing with "as seen in Forbes" ads on their site.

Torguard has been around for quite some time, first time I heard of them was in 2014, I think they had a Memorial Day Sale. VPN, proxy, smart DNS for ~3 Euro a month.

Huge sales were in 2018, could get access for a bit over a euro a month and even cheap lifetime accounts.
But never really used them, as they didn't support IPv6 back in 2018.

Funny how they're still advertising anonymous bittorenting on their site

I didn't read all through it but I believe the court ruling has been published as a 11 page long PDF file in the link in OP.

I mean, if you just want to hide your IP address, can't you use Tor?

As long as they only block it and don't give out any data to authorities, I don't think it's a big deal.

These dirty authorities with the idiots no one should cooperate.

  • They have to block this for their US server. Well, who is using torrents and connects to a US server?!.. Most other VPN companies allow torrenting only for torrent safe location. TORguard is quite popular because they allow port forwarding which is quite imprtant for torrent seeding.

Are you actually a pornstar? If so, could you give some hints as to which pornstar you are? Many of us may have enjoyed your work and it would be nice to have someone here who was famous for something other than committing fraud or SWATting.

I've been at a casting when I was 18, probably for one of the biggest labels in my country but also one of who make the dirtiest films. Nothing you can be proud of, in the end I was glad that the scene I was in was not published on DVD.
Most likely you can still see me or my piece of meat on Onlyfans, I worked for several years for various "models" as a shooting partner. But I can't recommend that either, the permanent pressure to look like a Ken and at the same time to perform like a machine, whereas I had rather no problem with that, my good piece however, the part has been quite affected in these years, everything is scarred... Even five years later I still carry traces and problems of it with me. Can not recommend it to anyone, would rather have continued athletics.

No offense, but who in their right mind would use a VPN for torrenting and THEN use a US endpoint? SMH

So, in summary, from the comments I take that this will only lead to blocking torrents on US servers? If so, big deal.

I used to be with them for 3 years, excellent speed and service, but no torrenting is a deal breaker for me.
