A little bit about Host Media

Whilst our expertise in hosting solutions dates back to 2002 we actually launched Host Media in 2008. With our range of powerful server resources, we wanted to provide heavy media and application-based hosting that will not fail under the stress that is created by media-based websites and applications. We continue to use our rule on overselling. We do not do it and will sell what we have, so you know that when you order your hosting plan that the hosting space is dedicated to you, not anyone else.

How much persistent CPU usage is permitted without triggering suspension hammer?

It comes down to fair usage just like our network, if you have days of maxing out your CPU that would trigger us to get in contact with you, we try not to suspend without first contacting our customers  CPU spikes for instance are perfectly normal.

do you allow IRC ? Bouncer, not ircd

That should be fine, as long as it doesn't break any of the terms of service (illegal activity, high network usage, etc).

A little reminder, if your order is marked as pending review a support ticket will be opened once it is reviewed if more information is needed OR if your order has passed manual review and you can make payment on your invoice.

Any issues or questions do drop us a sales ticket

    You are dodging the question.
A good provider would give a percentage as guideline.
My app can be capped to never exceed a particular CPU percentage, but the percentage must be known in order to setup correctly.

We normally state 75% usage of your allocated CPU in a continuous usage is perfectly fine and it would be extremely unlikely we would get in touch regarding that.

    Now that's a better answer.
75% CPU at less than $10/year is one of the cheapest.

I checked with http://ping.pe and it seems that most of Asia (Japan and Singapore, not just China) is routed through Cogent USA.
I think I'll have to pass.

You need to throw in some swap. 512 MB RAM is not enough for Geekbench.

Can we get 1Gbit/s metered instead of 100Mbit/s unmetered?

You can get 1Gbps on our {PRO} version but we don't have any offers on that. These VMs are focused on development, so 1Gbps shouldn't really be needed - that is also how these are cheaper than most providers even without an offer.

If you used 50Mbps for an hour that would be fine, but using that continuously for a month would not, that would be 16TB per month which for a VPS is pretty high. We have a soft limit of around 2-3TB per month on our dev instances.
