    Hi Frank,

It should work for you now. The promo code was initially associated with the 20mbps unmetered add-on instead of the 50mbps unmetered add-on.

  • it appears in the same datacenter as BuyVM LV :)

any IPv6 addr? and can I enable TUN/TAP by myself in the solusvm? thanks

That's correct, we have good neighbors :-)

However, beginning in approximately two weeks, we plan to begin hosting new VPS customers in our Seattle, WA location in the Westin Building.

No IPv6 available at the moment, but yes you are able to enable TUN/TAP on your own in SolusVM.

I love Seattle, with more friendly network to asia, lol

I see the spec is Burstable RAM: 256MB

or only 128M mem with 128M vswap indeed?

anyway, the network is poor ...

    @hotsnow - 128M mem with 128M vswap.

It did not spec out as anticipated, but for the price of an IP what should I expect, right.

  • The network is unfortunately very poor with this VPS host (own experience).

We do not put our ovzStarter plans on our fastest equipment (it's a $1 per month plan after all), but those posted network benchmarks are definitely out of the norm. I just ran a speed test with http://cachefly.cachefly.net/100mb.test and easily pulled down the file at a sustained ~10MB/sec (~80Mbps).

@FrankZ I believe I know which VPS is yours from a private message you sent me earlier. I took a look at your VPS and tweaked a setting that might resolve the network speed issue you posted above. Your parent node server is only at 10% utilization of its uplink, so there's plenty of free bandwidth available. Feel free to retry your speed tests.

If you continue to experience those network speeds, as always please open a ticket and we'll be happy to help you sort it out.

Level3 bandwidth as well :-) Very low ping times to Southeast Asia. We get pings around ~155ms to servers in Hong Kong from our Seattle location. Feel free to test the IP 66.113.106.2.

  • @BrianHarrison - I have no issue, as you said it is a $1 a month VPS. It suits my purpose, and the bandwidth did improve.

    Hi Frank,

Glad to hear the network is working well for you now!

It sounded like you were satisfied, but I could see that others were beginning to write off our hosting services after your network speed test with abnormal results was posted--so I made sure to advise that our network, even on a $1 a month plan, is much better.

It appears China Unicom's routing has your ping time at 280ms just as you reach landfall in the USA, that doesn't bode well for you with any US-based ISP.

Feel free to check out our global ping test results:

    http://cloudmonitor.ca.com/en/ping.php?vtt=1386177507&varghost=66.113.106.2&vhost=_&vaction=ping&ping=start

    ~167ms to Hong Kong.
    ~143ms to Manchester, UK.

Not bad for a Seattle, WA location :-)

Yes, it is a routing issue. Maybe ChinaUnicom in your particular part of their network doesn't peer with Level3--that'd be very unfortunate. However, I can't do much more than speculate because you're not providing the full traceroute.

We're in the exact same building as RamNode in Seattle. Level3 and AboveNet are in our BGP mix. Level3 takes the far majority of the routes, but it seems ChinaUnicom routes through SprintLink and AboveNet. Nothing we can do about that.
