Dedicated Server Build

Hello,

Currently I want to buy a 1U dedi to host some of my partner project and also my own project. Also if the capacity still available, maybe to host some VPS on it.

Any suggestion what brand and server configuration should I aware of or choose?
1. I want to buy DL160 10G or Dell R440.. any other brand or model suggestion?
2. Should I choose using 3.5 bay or 2.5 bay?
3. Any other brand that we can use custom brand on its hard drive?

Thank you all...

Never can go wrong with supermicro.
But i think you are more talking about colo rather than dedi.
More what are you looking for as far as storage/cpu/ram?
    ~Josh

  • Hai Josh,

Yes, I will place this dedi as colocation in local datacenter..
So, you suggest supermicro... any specific model can be suggested Josh?
    Thanks...

  • dell r620/r630/r420 or hp dl360 g7/g8/g9

    1. I prefer Dell over HP, because more parts in HP are locked for HP only.
    2. If you need more space, go with 3.5". If you want SSD speed, go with 2.5".
    3. Other server brand: definitely Supermicro. It is more generic, can accept various brand of parts.

If you are okay with a used server, I can recommend a place to get cheap used server with good quality in Jakarta.

  • Perfect.... Maybe will go to Dell then... Yes, I dont like HP since the disk have to used their brand and the price pretty expensive.

I'm okay with used server... What do you think about R630 with v4 processor series?
Are you also from Indonesia Laoban?

    Thank you.

    I agree with @nanankcornering, R630 with E5-2680 v4 processor is good choice.
I live in China, I am used to sending servers to Indonesia. :)

Supermicro systems are custom built and not a one type package like Dell.
    What CPU/RAM/SSD/HDD you looking for?

  • Thank you all for the suggestion... :)
    I think I will go with R630..

  • I builded my dell r630 in january with new parts and it cost me 3500 euros with the configuration bellow. All parts ordered from eBay.

    2 x e5-2680 v4 cpu
    8 x 32 GB DDR4 ECC
    8 x intel s4510 480GB SSD Enterprise
Raid Perc h730p 2GB NV Cache
    2 x 750w PSU

Because of the 2GB cache and also i got a good price for new part, but you can choose anything else for your needs.
