IPoE and PPPOE

itoito Member, Host Rep

Today my network service provider gave me a new ONU device and they told me that I don't need to use the router for dial-up in the future and get the IP address automatically.
So, I just need to set the ONU's network to bridge right?

    Technically, yes. But do you know the username/password/vlan of the pppoe?

  • If you are trying to dial via your computer, just connect it to the Ethernet port of the ONU and via Windows or Linux you can setup PPoE connection with the username and password that your provider gave you (or you read it from the router).

    I have a following setup:

    GPON <---> ONU <---> Mikrotik <---> LAN/WLAN bridge

    On the Mikrotik router I setup a PPoE connection via ethernet port that is connected with the ONU.

    Other ports and WLAN are bridged.

    I've noticed that ISPs have been giving lately ONUs with a built in Router feature so they can also dial and create a LAN/WLAN network. It's important that you let us know of the device Manufacturer and model.

    Asked me to make a choice, ZTE or HUAWEI. Given the current News from Huawei .... I choose ZTE F660A
