Webhorizon NAT - a little dissapointed, but it's still pretty good.

So I recently bought the NAT x5 Bundle. Got to choose the locations and got the following: WAW-EU NL-EU SGP-ASIA ZAF-AFRICA NY-US.
I'm a little disappointed with the disk performance, as in some locations it seems like they just have HDDs in RAID 10 instead of the advertised NvME, and in others SSD. In reality on none of those VPS, I have found something similar to NvME speeds at all. I have asked them in a ticket about the HDD speeds and got a response of :

I'm very much annoyed at the lies, as clearly there are no limits that are visible (hard IOPS, or MB/s limit). And the other speeds (like 1m block) are similar to the performance of the kind of disks 4k block size indicates.

Also on some VPS VM-x/AMD-V is enabled but on some disabled.

In the end, this is an a-okay deal, but false advertising is pretty obvious, from which I'm very disappointed.

Here is YABS:

PL and NY looks like NVMe for me.
    SG looks like SSD.

Also on some VPS VM-x/AMD-V is enabled but on some disabled.

Does nested virtualization even work inside OpenVZ containers?
If not, why do you care?

I don't. I'm just telling the facts and inconsistencies between locations.

If you think we're lying, maybe get an HDD VM and test. hdd simply won't work for us.
We use SSDs or NVMes in all locations.

I don't think you can get those 4k iops with HDD

How many HDD on the server that can bring you 1.8k iops for 4k block size on a VPS? Or even on the bare metal server?

this is kimsufi with raid 1:

fio Disk Speed Tests (Mixed R/W 50/50):

    Total | 109.91 MB/s (214) | 142.25 MB/s (138)

So maybe there is SSD cache

ESPECIALLY looking at the 1M block size (kimsufi beats that shit AF)

Also for me this is NvME (in my pc brand is xpg, so not a high end Samsung) neither is this in any kind of raid

    Write | 495.94 MB/s (968) | 1.17 GB/s (1.1k)
    Total | 966.87 MB/s (1.8k) | 2.27 GB/s (2.2k)

Look at the iops. You won't be getting a few thousand iops with HDD raid. You probably can't get that iops with ssd cache too, since there are probably hundreds of users on each server. There's 65k ports and how many ports do you get when you buy a nat vps? 20 ports? 50 ports?

This is just one of many reasons why I avoid nat vps.

  • Lol, don't use what you don't like. It's that simple.

@skorupion There is no false advertising involved as you might have understood by now these use actual NVMes / SSDs , same as advertised while order.

On NAT VPS, resources are extremely fair-shared according to pricing. it works for simple ping monitors / VPN's etc. use cases,

I get that you're needing to see HIGH numbers which can be found on our normal vps plans (KVM/VZ). can just upgrade to a normal vps plan and check those benchmarks as well, I'm sure will be much better. :)

My NAT bundle has five locations:

    upstream provider location IATA code
    Zappie Host Valdivia, Chile ZAL
Shock Hosting Piscataway, NJ, USA EWR
    ReadyDedis Mumbai, India BOM
    HostHatch Zurich, Switzerland ZRH
Zappie Host Johannesburg, South Africa JNB

I did ping (10 packets) and iperf3 (UDP) between these locations over IPv6:

source destination RTT (ms) bandwidth (Mbps)
    EWR ZAL 136 182
    BOM ZAL 365 101
    ZRH ZAL 243 111
    JNB ZAL 376 34
    ZAL EWR 140 70
    BOM EWR 215 98
    ZRH EWR 103 128
    JNB EWR 225 49
    ZAL BOM 362 194
    EWR BOM 215 401
    ZRH BOM 165 128
    JNB BOM 315 51
    ZAL ZRH 245 73
    EWR ZRH 104 258
    BOM ZRH 165 98
    JNB ZRH 198 51
    ZAL JNB 376 85
    EWR JNB 227 87
    BOM JNB 316 78
    ZRH JNB 199 87

Five containers, five continents, latency up high, bandwidth down low.

Mate, if you are dealing with Virmach, they will simply "refound" you instead.
