because in my experience upgrading a VPS is usually more expensive than getting a better one. @dustinc can you tell me how much a disk upgrade would be?

I suggest you to buy now only if it is an urgent project. Blackfriday is around the corner and you should be able to get the best bang for your buck from a reliable host if you hold it for few more days.
