It's not just emails, these appear in the Notifications right here on LET, from a "pielies".
Once the thread has been remove, the notification of the mention still remains in the relevant bit of UI at the top-right of these pages. A minor UX bug there. Might be better to remove the notification when the thread is binned, or mark the notifications as read, or change the thread title to “Deleted due to spam: ”, or some combination of the above.
