What sort of specs you after?

not entirely sure yet, will be playing the likes of valheim, cs go, minecraft ect. probs ~4c/8 thred 16 gig ram, ssd
Most of the France/Germany/Amsterdam providers would definitely be okay for gaming latency.
£20 for 4c/8t + 16GB RAM is far too low for a dedicated server. You're looking at around £35-40 minimum.
SoYouStart or Hetzner would be the lowest price providers for that spec.
What kind of cpu did you prefer? what GHz?
you're gonna have to adjust your expectations for that price
realistically for those games you probably wont need those specs if it's just for a small group (unless you're running them all simultaneously)
as @AllHost_Ben said, you probably will get acceptable latency from other european locations, i recommend taking a look at them.
you could try an ovh vps, soyoustart/hetzner server, etc.
@combahton_it has VPS with good ddos protection, although the CPU is a bit slower

You'll not get that close to £20/mo, especially not with SSD. The recent SYS offer wasn't too far off but that has now ended, was a bit more, and not SSD¹
https://www.serverhunter.com/ lists a number 4 or 8 core machines with 16GB around that level but only a few in places likely to have great latency for UK users, and those cores may well be slow ones in many cases (old CPUs or Atoms that aren't designed for speed in the first place).
Maybe keep an eye open for BF deals at the end of the month, but any offer that good from a reliable provider will sell out in an instant so you'll have to be bloody quick.
As a cheap-n-cheerful workaround: If it is for private use, do any of you have a decent home connection with an ISP that doesn't mind hosting servers? A short FTTC line with a good ISP may have similar latency to others in the same country than a DC further way, 10mbit/s may be adequate for a lot of games for a small number of concurrent active users, and you could spend some of the budget on upgrading from the bog standard 40/10 product to 80/20 if needed for the extra upstream. You need to have a spare machine lying around or budget to buy one up-front for that though.
[1] Though the extra RAM might help a chunk through caching and you'll get a bit of extra performance through RAID10 on the four drives².
[2] In fact if you are familiar enough with Linux and its software RAID you could mix R10 for the system volumes & local backups and R0 for the active data, that way you have R0 for speed but local backups so restoring if a drive dies should be relatively quick.
