Where do you store camera video?

Is it local NAS or some sort of remote location? How much space do you typically consume for 1 camera records for a month of archive?

My family stores camera video on VHS tapes.
Each tape can record 180 minutes of video.

How many tapes you need for a month depends on how often you record.
If you only go out once a week and record 3 hours, you need 4 tapes for a month.
Generally, you need to buy new tape after recording over the same tape tens of times.

Be sure to keep your tapes away from magnets.
Last time a thief came to our house, he erased all the tapes with a big magnet.
We still caught him because our door can only be opened from inside after completing 27 push-ups (unless you pull fire alarm which would call the police), but he couldn't finish it.

Actually, if you use LP mode, you can get 240 hours of video out of that same VHS tape and SLP mode gets you a whopping 360 minutes!

Edit: you get even more time if you're recording on a PAL system.

  • Local HDD, been meaning to build a NAS but too lazy to actually do it.

  • I make videos for couple of YouTube channels.
Currently I put everything off the SD cards to WD Black SN750 2TB and when I'm done / I make final render then I backup data to Google Drive / GSuite Business. I have already 30TB there (but tbh I wont ever touch 90% of backuped data gain lol)

  • On a local secondary pc. then those videos there, get auto uploaded (2x daily rysnc) to a VPS for backup purposes.

For important video I always backup 3 times, My phone automatically upload any media to my google one and copy it to my External HDD and put it on my bookshelf.
    And burn to DVD/BD.

  • I store all my important files on @yoursunny 's prem free unlimited bit sorting storage platform.

Uploaded my crypto wallets there and verified everything by downloading the file again and matched the size. I'm so confident in it that I even deleted the original file.

Next week when I need to access my wallet I will download it with confidence.

    Me so smart.

Local NAS + Google Drive for secondary backup, and I have a server at the office too, which some stuff goes to over UBNT link between office & home :)
