    -and it hurts?

No. Au contraire, I was amused and entertained.

Does a legit question also have to make sense?

I mean, what's the sense behind this question?
I can follow that under certain situations with a comprehensible technial justification a 16bit ASN could make sense. But in such a case a RIR should be able to assign you a 16bit ASN by following the regular official way.

All systems being in contact with ASNs are binary operating machines.
There's simply no difference at all if ASN < 65536 or ASN < 10000.

There's only a difference for decimal operating machines. Most likely some humans.
Maybe some of them think an ASN < 10000 looks 'cooler' than an ASN > 10000.

The big tech companies like Alphabet, Amazon, Facebook, Alibaba etc. have ASNs > 10000.
If they can do it, you can do it, too.
And if you really think, you are cooler than Alphabet, Amazon and Facebook; think twice.

Just my personal opinion when I read threads like this.

There is no other meaning, it is just a personal preference, if the price is within my affordability, I think I will accept.

However, this is not a reason to be discriminated against by others.
