Linode and Netflix

Hey everyone!

Does anyone have any experience with Linode and their dedicated server? Does anyone know if their servers might be unblocked on Netflix?
I'm looking for VPS/dedicated server in Japan and Australia and I saw some VPNs using their servers.

Maybe someone has some advice for me? Thanks in advance

  • (Almost) impossible that their servers can be unblocked. Don't waste your time.

    Yup, basically what he said:

You can always connect a VPN to your server and route the needed traffic via the VPN tunnel.

Year is 2021, and people still watch Netflix.

    The end is nigh.

  • Thank you, that's really helpful! I'll have to look somewhere else (although I looked everywhere by now :| )

Get a VPS with any provider
Get a VPN that unblocks the desired sites
Route all the IPs for these sites via the VPN tunnel
Route the rest via your VPS

    Problem solved 🐱

hahah I guess it's a very obvious solution but I can't really do that because I'm looking for a server not just for my personal use ;)

I guess you're right but I'm still trying to find something "legit" Next step will be to find someone to host my raspberry pi server in their home

If you are providing a service - a pi in someones house is definitely not a good option. Cause when power goes out - your support desk will get flooded, and there is nothing you can do about it.

That's a really good point. But at this situation, it's kind of this or nothing. I went through almost every VPS provider that would work with VPNs and didn't find even one server that would work with Netflix.

This is because they route their streaming traffic via other servers that you can't see.

The best way to find their streaming provider is - connect to the VPN, go to fast.com, do a test, click on "show more info" once the test is done, and you'll be able to see which servers they use for unblocking Netflix. Otherwise you're just seeing their "trash" servers, which are used for general purpose.

I wonder if it will work with https://www.notebookcheck.net/PINE64-SOQuartz-revealed-with-support-for-the-Raspberry-Pi-Compute-Module-4.547072.0.html

T-firefly sent me a clusterserver R1 which has so much potential for micro hosting as well, but there's an issue with it that i have to see if it can be overcome before recommending it.

Personally, I think Raspberry Pi with NVMe will sell simply because of the name. Something like this can also be used to sell storage.

Absolutely. Rpi's brand is strong and has lots of community and commercial support. It IS a sane path to persue.

However...Without spreading too much SoC religion there are a lot of other good other chips and SBCs out there... that have hardware AES, etc. ( Rpi4 doesnt)

And without too much armbian evangelism there are other flexible build platforms that would make it easy for VPS providers to build custom optimized debian and ubuntu images in an automated fashion.
