You gotta do push-ups for new year special to happen.
The only reason I still have some Gullo boxes is that he would do push-ups for me when there's a downtime:

  • What can be the purpose of such small spec servers?

    At the DC level:
    Lower environmental footprint when idling.

Less power, less cooling, proportionately less water, less greenhouse gas emissions.

    At your individual level:
You log in less number of times, lesser cpu cycles and bandwidth for you, happy earth!

    I have two BF-DOLLA-NAT 128MB boxes.

vps9 in Germany has two services:

    • Provide IPv4 access to an IPv6-only EUserv box; tutorial. This uses entirely kernel features and is very efficient.
    • Run a Go program that sends UDP probe packets to a few pre-determined locations, when requested on this webapp. The program must be compiled elsewhere and uploaded to the server. It can then run in 12MB memory and minimal CPU.

vps3 in Canada has one service:

    • Run a Python program that translates between QUIC and plain UDP, so that Chrome browser can talk to UDP server via its experimental QuicTransport feature; source code. It's a struggle getting this program installed. It can then run in 40MB memory and 30% CPU when active.

Things that I tried recently and wouldn't work:

    • NPM. As a workaround, I can run NPM elsewhere and copy the node_modules folder.
    • Repository server for push-ups. LevelDB needs more memory and faster disk.
    • Pipenv. As a workaround, I can use venv and pip --no-cache-dir.

Next year, I plan to cancel vps9, and grab a BF-2D-NAT256 to replace vps3.

128MB is too small, really. I don't want to torture myself again after using Virmach 2019 $1 offer.

If there's 256MB bundle maybe I will buy one.

Haven't tried that. I just try to set up using Ansible with this script and works perfectly
