Recent cPanel Update Causes MariaDB Issues on LowEndTalk
Folks,
Quick apologies for the two recent outages (couple hours two days ago and then 6 hours this morning).
The outage was due to an automatic update on cPanel that broke database services.
I reverted back after the first update but failed to disable automatic updates - which re-updated things the next day.
Ugh!
Anyways, should be smoother sailing moving forward.
Just a quick FYI

i past the same last night .....
got to love cPanel.
congrats Sir
Thanks for the info.
LET is with cPanel?! I thought it is on good old 256MB openvz box and pure bash magic. cPanel...
cPanel is supposed to make life easier. Ugh.
Issue is with MariaDB update which broke PDO support, not with cPanel per se.
Certainly a mess. What a headache. Gotta love technology.
Brings up a couple questions that I figure a few other people would be curious about:
What do you host LET on?
Who do you host it with?
How much does it cost?
Time to move to DirectAdmin
cPanel Team already working on it may be release new update will solve this bug

MariaDB updates were for stricter packet validation for security just some clients aren't up to the task it seems https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-24121 i.e. PHP <=7.2 mysqlnd isn't. I’m already testing backported PHP mysqlnd fixes malformed communication packet errors for PHP 5.6, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 using PHP 7.3 mysqlnd code which seems to fix the MariaDB update issues https://community.centminmod.com/threads/mariadb-10-5-7-10-4-16-10-3-26-10-2-35-and-10-1-48-now-available.20632/#post-86953 for at least Wordpress and Xenforo forums. So they don’t require upgrading to PHP 7.3+
However, from that Jira link, cPanel and other web apps have other PHP and other MySQL client/connectors which may not work with MariaDB's new 10.5.7, 10.4.16, 10.3.26, 10.2.35 and 10.1.48 releases' stricter packet validation requirements. So MariaDB may end of relaxing the stricter requirements.
I was so worried, nervous and curious without LET. Now you know.
I host LEB and LET on a number of virtualized environments utilizing underlying hardware based on the Intel Gold series CPUs.
The costs are high but reliability and speed is important -- and is part of the reason why I cannot stand outages caused by this sort of thing.
I talked a bit about these things in my interview: https://lowendbox.com/blog/interview-qa-with-lowendbox-lowendtalk-owner-jon-biloh/
Then, I correctly remember, that it was hosted on some kind of cluster
