Looking for storage vps to replace Time4vps (been there 4 years..)

Been lurking the offers forum but couldn't find anything.... I have a 1tb time4vps expiring soon, looking for something to replace it with since their new pricing is taking effect from the next invoice.

I paid 45 eur for 1tb per 2 years (was able to renew the last time they hiked prices) but alas it has to come to an end now after 4 solid years with them.

What's the storage vps space like now? I have openvz right now but would be keen for kvm. Please post away!

https://servarica.com/clients/cart.php?a=confproduct&i=0 is unbeatable, user @servarica_hani is representative here.
https://www.wishosting.com/order/main/packages/VPS/?group_id=2 and the representative is @exception0x876.

But maybe you should wait for BF offers and get something real crazy there.

Edit: wishosting storage offer is in the bottom of page.

  • Hi @bingodingo (funny username haha).

Not the "cheapest", but if you would like to try us out : https://nexusbytes.com/kvm-storage-vps.html :)

If Finland is an option we've recently launched a range of storage servers - https://console.vmspecialist.com/order/main/packages/order/?group_id=5

I can do something on price as a promo too with them being a new lineup to around £5/TB - not at cheap as your current VPS but KVM

  • So the price hike is to £60/year? If so, stick with that, it'll be a hassle moving elsewhere and you won't save any money.

Pretty sure if you're in the US, the revamped InceptionHosting deals in my signature(my affiliate links) will be quite interesting. I have 1TB there as my borgbackup target #2.

I have 10mbps upload cap from India. So it maxes out anyway.

Are you planning on running rtorrent /transmission /deluge?

Use this voucher for 5 euro off: 36nc16011055520

Cheapest in my opinion. 1 gbps port and it's SAS which is way faster than HDD.

You'll get 5 tb SAS in the same price.

  • OP was paying 48 per 2year (I had 2tb for 2yrs too. I just moved to hosthatch and InceptionHosting)

More copies distributed among 2.5/TB-mo servers is better than a single copy.

  • Depending in your tasks you could also get a cheap 1Fichier for some 20€/year. Check my sig for more info about them :)

if you are required a solid service? backupsy is charging $80 per month for 2TB, with ramnode it will cost $40 /month.

Would our VMWare Storage VPS interesting for you?
    7€/mo for 1TB, 12,50/mo for 2TB. https://deinserverhost.de/cloudspeicher

Yes they are a bit more expensive.

  • Using hosthatch 2TB plan at $72/year and it is great. But, it was a BF offer.

Another one you can take a look at is liteserver.nl but that's probably out of your price range.
I can vouch for hosthatch and buyvm as well.

I also left T4V when they basically doubled the cost after ~5 years last BF and moved to LiteServer.

However the 500GB (which cost more than 1TB of T4V) seems quite low now. I guess I might be looking for an alternative in a year or so and snatch a deal if I can.

While the value for money quotient compared to T4V is very low, it's not been bad. Ticket response is blazing fast and to the point. Uptime is good. If it wasn't for an almost dormant low usage (CPU, b/w etc) personal VPS (with high storage needs) I would just stick with them.

So @bingodingo, you are not getting such a deal again - combo of quality and quantity at that price. Maybe that's the reason they sunset it. I looked around for quite long. Be ready for compromises - on either side. Or if you actually manage to find that sweet spot of price/quality again do let us know as well :)

What cost/config did you get here? And do they allow private Linux ISO sharing (I think Inception doesn't)? Also, isn't Hosthatch from T4V?

More copies distributed among 2.5/TB-mo servers is better than a single copy.

What do you mean by copy distribution, if I may ask?

Glad you like it. I have the Black Friday 40% deal. 3 eur/mo for 500gb raid10.

I got a double disk promo in September at IH. 1tb disk in Phoenix for 6.25 eur/qtr. That's the sweet spot for secondary copy of important data.

And do they allow private Linux ISO sharing (I think Inception doesn't)?

True Linux isos should be fine. You don't get DMCA notices for those right. (Hint.)
But I don't really want heavy disk iops abusers for neighbors.

    Also, isn't Hosthatch from T4V?

No, they've been around longer I think. (user Abdullah on LET)
I have 3TB storage for $7/mo (paid annual)
    Comes to $2.33 /TB-mo.

More copies distributed among 2.5/TB-mo servers is better than a single copy.

What do you mean by copy distribution, if I may ask?

3-2-1 rule of backup. I have two offsite copies of all important data since September (. I can afford to lose any one of my offsite storage and not have to scramble to fix it until the next great deal comes along. All for less than 4 eur/tb-mo(double replicated costs)

  • @Devil said:

I just figured out that you might be thinking of Hostens (indeed it's time4vps' budget brand)

  • btw, time4vps increased the RAM from 1GB to 2GB on my 1Tb plan and my Recurring Amount is still showing 43.10 EUR/Biennially (Next Due Date 2020-12-11)

  • @vimalware said: But I don't really want heavy disk iops abusers for neighbors.

To be honest you never know what your neighbour would do with their VPS

You might rather want to have a neighbour like me who past that stage where one cared how many people got Linux ISOs from them (ratios and what not) and now only downloads and tries one or two distros per week at max and honestly for those obscure distro ISOs, no one really downloads anymore from me (maybe few MBs if I am lucky). Some months my total data transfer is less than 50GB. Yeah.

True Linux isos should be fine. You don't get DMCA notices for those right. (Hint.)

It's just them. Those distros for which you need invite from other unix/linux users and on top of that I download from especially those which are hard to come by these days.

    I have the Black Friday 40% deal. 3 eur/mo for 500gb raid10.

You meant LS? I think we have the same deal then.

I got a double disk promo in September at IH. 1tb disk in Phoenix for 6.25 eur/qtr

Wow! This is a nice deal. Can you send link to the promo please. I will keep an eye out for them - will also read their AUP and TNC.

    3-2-1 rule of backup

Yeah, right. This I do for only personal data.

    My setup is:

    1. Copy entire laptop to external hard disks every few months (using SuperDuper!), Time Machine backs up to another hard disk every week (or so), there's a 256 pen drive where I keep my user folder always backed up/synced (again with SuperDuper). → I need to add some automated setup here. Maybe connect a RasPi with decent storage with my router or finally buy a NAS setup.
    2. Important personal data (like photos etc - data that is truly personal and can't be recreated) backed up to rsync.net (using borg), backblaze s2 (restic), tarsnap.com, and some even more important of this anyway stays in Dropbox (and gets backed up via these tools)

So for offsite backup, since it's my personal data, I chose to go with servers/services managed by others (the data is E2E) except data in Dropbox which is not E2E - for this I am exploring other options or use boxcryptor, cryptomator or something that ensures data between my laptop and when it's back to another laptop is encrypted. Any suggestions here? Tresorit is there but it's proprietary as well.

What tools you use for backing up those data? And what kind of data is that?

Yes, you are right. I meant Hosthens.

On another note, is it just me or does @time4vps employ the most attractive women on the planet? Their web site makes me think they should rename the company Time4Daydreams.

It's always left, because price needs to stay right.

  • My plan with them is expired last month as well: promo code expired and price hike (double). Currently I am sitting with cociu's, but I will see what BF brings. :D

  • @time4vps said: Yes, and it will remain the same

Well, I was told it will change in next billing cycle and it did change :( It became more than 2x suddenly.

  • @Devil : The double disk promo is BACK unti 1600 GMT, Oct 11.
    Grab one while stocks last.

My sig just links to the 4TB option (2TB doubled). You can also pick any Arizona storage and it will be doubled on provision.

Hope OP also finds this useful. 2TB would be 4.25/mo if you order before deadline. It reverts back to 1TB after.
