Ryzen 3900x server motherboard and chassis?
Hi all,
It seems AMD Ryzen 3900x gets more and more popular for data centres and virtualization providers since last year it came out. I'm wondering what kind of motherboards are used? How do they fit this CPU and motherboard into rack in a compact size? 1u finish or some other layouts?
Asrock? micro-ATX 9.6"x9.6" (244mmx 244mm)

also it probably would fit in the supermicro chassis

Thank you. I thought it could be much smaller finish than 1U since it only needs 1-2 Nvme.
In terms of height - it can't be less than 1U - you won't be able to cool it properly, neither would find something that's less than 1U.
To get more density than 1 server / 1U you'll usually need to be looking at 8+ servers - these high density products are usually 8 servers / 4U or larger.
I mean if thats possible to use some kinds of open /vertical chassis to place them vertically saving more space than placing them flat. yep another issue is cooling, these bad boys could be hot.
any chassis for that on the market?
Sure, look at pretty much any vendor's supermicro offerings and you'll see some high density systems.
They're costly, and you'll need to be very careful about cooling, power planning etc. Personally I'd stick with normal 1-2U servers unless you're needing several racks of kit (i.e. can justify the extra work).
