What would you pay for this machine? (dedicated server)

Is Christmas coming early this year?

This is the setup:

  • Intel Xeon E5-2630V3 (2 CPUs) (=16c,32t @ 2.4GHz)
  • Red. Power Supply
  • DELL PowerEdge™ R730
  • 2x HDD SATA 4,0 TB Enterprise
  • 2x SSD SATA 240 GB Datacenter Edition
  • 5x RAM 32768 MB DDR4 ECC reg. plus
  • 10x RAM 16384 MB DDR4 ECC reg. (totalling 320GB RAM)
  • Network: 1 Gbit on Broadcom BCM5720
  • Unmetered
  • RAID Controller 8-Port SATA PCI-E LSI PERC H730 Mini w/ BBU
  • KVM-over-IP Remote Management
  • iDRAC8

Ok, the machine is 4-5 years old, but still decent specs imho.

Now guess the monthly rental cost (and you probably know the provider already).

Yepp, for single core applications it's pretty useless.

Arg, damn, typo. Yes, sure it's Ghz.

  • I knew I'd pay too much.

Nowadays, my monthly budget for a dedicated server is 15€, so this is what I would be ready to pay :)

Sounds like Hetzner, they recently offloaded a bunch of >256GB RAM machines to the auctions I don't remember seeing there before.

  • You should have known all the possible answers from LET when you typed the title.

  • True. LET is LET. And these kind of machines probably not really the LET world.

But as I need threads and RAM like hell, this was a really nice offer. isodme is close with his guess.

OVH (US) has sth. similar, but even much older machines and only DDR3 RAM and no customization for hdd/sdd.

So Hetzner beats the market again (they also fulfilled my customization request for different hdd/sdd in less than 30 min.).

(@ioFlood had sth. nice thru BF for the US, actually the best US BF offer this year - and no one noticed.)
