Should we make another DireVPS offering?

Hi folks,

We know that DireVPS is a pretty polarising offering. It caused more controversy than we intended.

That being said, I was wondering if people would be interested in another Dire offering that provides large storage capacities? Perhaps lots of CPU or is it just RAM that everyone wants? Maybe a VPS that has lots of disk IO?

Just to be clear, it's a 'pick one' offering so if it's lots of CPU, expect to have a punishingly small RAM and disk allocation (bearing in mind everything needs to come within the $7 a month limit).

If you have any fun suggestions or ideas, let us know and we'll see what we can do :)

What's your preference?
  1. Do you prefer more CPU or more disk IO?51 votes
    1. More CPU please!
      54.90%
    2. Faster disks
      45.10%

So far the CPUs have it.

  • CPU with not so creepy limit's
like 10% for not more than a min ;)

    I am disappoint.

  • How much less RAM for a better CPU?

Its Dire ;) hope not a lot...

That'll all depend on what can be provided for $7. I would hope not to go lower than 512MB but I think 1GB would be the sweet spot.

It's unlikely to be 4GB of RAM as well as a good CPU.

  • Can we get more disk space rather than faster disks?

gr8, So you are going to ignite a new trend/ war.... ;)

BTW, can you give the uptime stats of your previous dire offer.

  • A less restrictive AUP would be nice

    We'll certainly look at that.

Well, 4GB of RAM with a fast disk is what I am looking for

    Uptime is around 172 days.

That's quite nice, going to be a very intimating offer :D

@awson Their APU is not that bad except few lines, that's why it's different, since most of the providers has similar restrictions...

After all after providing so much of resources and also maintaining it to be usable by all it's users, and not only by abusers are not that easy.

But I believe you can ask him for what you want to run, here, since you are not opening an Official support ticket ;)

@Dave what can be the expected fair usage policy for the CPU??

Like xx % for not more than xx min.

We don't have an FUP on CPU usage. It's pretty much a 'play nice please' policy or you'll be asked to leave. It's working fine so far but it only takes one or two users to shift that balance.

    Yep, good policy...

    and then there is ;)

Management decision is final. We may terminate service without refund as we see fit if we feel you are abusing it.

Yeah, we wanted to leave no room for discussion where people would take advantage of a loosely worded policy. 'Play nice' is very fair but the unfair will happily take advantage of it unfortunately.

It does scare away some good users but alas we need to be on a sound footing to be able to remove offenders without fuss.
