Looking for a reliable VPS under $7

Edited: Thanks for all your suggestions. I have selected a provider (Crowncloud) and hopefully it will fulfill my requirements.

My minimum requirements are following:

Price: maximum $7 per month
CPU: 2 core
RAM: 4 GB
KVM virtualization
SSD storage: 20 GB
Location: Europe or North America
Mode of payment: credit/debit card (ideally through Stripe)

It would be great if a benchmark is available.

Have a service in LA and its real good, that i changed to semi annual billing.

  • iirc HostHatch will be doing the 2xRAM,DISK, 5xBANDWIDTH promotion for london and chicago soon. It will be $5 for 4GB RAM and 40GB NVMe storage. It only comes with 1 core though.

    Here's a nench for london 4GB

Thanks for recommendation. I already have VPS with 1 core and its performance is quite poor. Hence, looking for 3 or 4 cores now.

Hetzner asks for an ID check via E-Mail or to top up 20€ on your account as a security to prevent abuse. Did they even ask or they simply dropped your order?

As for the first root payment system you may want to inform @FR_Michael about that.

Another german provider known to get you most CPU power for your money is netcup. However their contracts can feel unusual for international customers since they got stuff like contract period 6 months but monthly payment and 30 days cancellation period. Theyre not intentionally fooling their customers, you just need to read carefully and expect what I mentioned above.

that offer from @HostDoc looks like it might be just what the doctor ordered ... with a benchmark even.

Looks pretty good to me. (Also - if you're looking for solid CPU / NVMe / network - I really like HostDoc's Xeon Gold node in Dallas - I got a nice deal from a flash sale a while ago - you might want to look into possibilities on that node as well)

Also ... I've recently been working with a couple $7/m plans (that come with more SSD) and am so far quite pleased with both:

    1) CrownCloud (@SpeedBus) in Los Angeles

    https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/159181/crowncloud-4-gb-ram-60-gb-ssd-kvm-at-frankfurt-los-angeles-7-month-more/p1

    https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14262365

    2) DrServer (@Radi) in Dallas

    https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/160235/drserver-net-dual-e5-back-in-stock-starting-at-61-mo/p1

    https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14625544

(if you get the DrServer deal do be sure to put in a ticket to get CPU passthrough enabled) :)

Hetzner asked for ID verification but rejected it after I sent it. I realized later that the reason might be that I entered my office address in registration whereas my IDs contained my home address.

Is it only me or are you developing this speciality in creating “folks have you noticed what you’ve been missing or missed?” Posts?

@arsalanj Hetzner asked me for ID AND 20 Euro advance. I rejected them instead.

For some of the providers here a PM might help. Worked in 3 out of 4 cases with me.
