Scaleway DEV instances, high steal%

Hello,

I am trying the DEV instances of Scaleway. I created a few DEV-1 instances in PAR1 but with all instances my CPU steal is very high. top output:

top - 16:21:15 up 1 day, 20:22, 1 user, load average: 0.69, 0.70, 0.63
Tasks: 76 total, 2 running, 74 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie
%Cpu(s): 1.3 us, 1.5 sy, 0.0 ni, 56.8 id, 0.5 wa, 0.0 hi, 0.1 si, 39.9 st
KiB Mem : 1878732 total, 1092232 free, 222288 used, 564212 buff/cache
KiB Swap: 0 total, 0 free, 0 used. 1397492 avail Mem

steal% is around 20-40 on all instances all times.

Does anyone else have this experience?

    oversold™

You may try to spin up another one.
Or try something else like Linode, Vultr... or get a decent Lowendtalkbox with 0% steal.

Try a few hours later one more in Paris, perhaps you just got onto an unlucky node before.

Or perhaps they were running a node backup. ;)
Then again with a low I/O Wait, I'd say Neeon hit the mark.

    Hello @rick2610 ,

that is definitely not normal. Have you opened a support ticket about it?
Maybe you can PM me the ticket ID so we can have a look into it.

I created one instance ~5% steal

I just made a new instance, it shows 6% steal when I did top, and then goes between 1-4% steal. I have at least 5 VPS's each with Vultr/DO and Scaleway. For Vultr/DO, steal is always 0%, this is not the case with Scaleway. I made another recent instance at Scaleway where I was debugging why an app was crashing with a developer, we couldn't figure out the erratic behavior. I said it probably is the host node. It seems like steal is always in use on every newer generation Scaleway VPS I have, whereas my older hardware instances at Scaleway are < 1% steal. How are these 1-5% steal values affecting processes, are they the reason processes may crash or get killed, or behave unexpectedly? Or is there no impact at these percentages?

Your app will not crash, it just gets less CPU time. So it is impacting your performance.
