To store additional stuff that does not fit in the main disk.

My collection of @WSS porn.
It's either "Linux isos" or "lyndahub"
Those offers with like "30GB SSD 60GB HDD" you mean? IMO HDD here is kind of useless. Implementing some sort of tiered storage inside small VM with such disk sizes will be pointless, HDD is not even close to being large enough to hold anything big, like linux repo or something, not useful for backups either, being part of the same physical server...
The only usecase that comes to mind is may be storage for some static content like images.
Now if it was network-attached it would have been more useful for backups (kind of like online's ftp backup space).
Or if it was large, like a combination of ~10GB SSD and 1T+ HDD. That would be nice storage VM an i am surprised no one does it. Theoretically a lot of advantages for both sides - more responsive VM to work with for customer, reduced load on large storage array for host (all those "apt upgrade" and such would not be hitting it).
May be even VM with small SSD vdisk for OS and some physical HDD-s attached to it for storage?
AFAIK
buyvm @Francisco and letbox @key900 offer product like that
Backups of backups of backups.
on this topic, what are the recommended software/applications for backup?
rsync, tar -cvzf, sftp.
(simple, traditional, unixy)
Yep, get a Slice & Slab.
You'd be 512MB RAM and $7.00/month in cost. 10GB OS, 1TB addon.

Are not slabs out of stock?
Other than that yes, this is exactly what i wanted, even tried to buy it before trying storage from virmach (which turned out to be totally not what i wanted), but slabs were out of stock.
Well, looking at @hostdoc offers... are not they either 30/60, 20/50 SSD/HDD and such, or large storage (1TB+) without SSD? That's not really interesting, as those small HDD partitions do not seem useful at all.
the OP didn't specify any size besides why not ask/pm for an offer? all i know is they are flexible with supper support. enough said.
Combine app hosting and backup target for another vps?
If you prefer to have dedicated storage VMs, then these are probably not for you.

This week.
Sourcing some of the gear has been a pain in the ass. I got shipped the wrong models and all that causing an additional week of delays.

I like your style
BorgBackup (has deduplication and compression, unlike rsync, tar, scp, etc).
We do and it pretty much good.

It is nice, but I also have a few pure hdd storage vps and they are fine too. Just don't expect much iops. Hdd vps are unpleasant when they are small, like the old typical ones with 20gb or so of space, since that meant you were sharing the drive iops with 100+ other users. If your vps has 1tb of hdd, it means maybe 6 other users sharing the drive, depending on the drive size. So it isn't so bad.
