Intel C2350 worth for CGI Script (xfilesharing) ?

Hello everyone on this forum.
I've got a question about XFileSharing. Already tried on forum of the script without success.
Is it worth a Intel C2350 4 GB DDR3 for a CGI Script ?
This CGI script is about file sharing. Basically this server will be used for File Server and is related to main server. Its job is only to offer to visitors direct links for download (files will be on this server and i will do a incremental backup everyday > rsync).
Opinion ? CPU is too much weak for this job ?
Server will be configured, ofc, with the minimal services + a firewall (probably CSF). No MYSQL ofc.

Volume is what matters. What kind of traffic are you expecting?

40TB month for this server i assume, not more than that. It's an Abandonware site. Most of the files are quiet for very long time but sometimes they wake up :hushed: Lot of old DOS zip 7zip files and ofc other files. (no piracy ofc).
The problem is that i never tried this CPU for this job. I've always tried upper grade CPU but if something weaker can do the job, why not ? And with 1 HD i just have to do RSYNC to avoid disaster, it isn't so difficult.

C2350 has 900 passmark score which is ... well, I think "Crap" is actually a compliment for this CPU.

Its a Perl script so CPU/RAM should be fine for the load (idling files).

Agree 100%. It's not a CPU server grade, OFC. But as i told you people will only download files from this server (direct link ip restricted). This is the job of this "server".

Thanks Man for your opinion, really appreciated.

In the meantime, if someone else has an opinion ... you're welcome, of course.

File transfer consumes more CPU power than people expect. It might work for quiet days but will likely send KO signal once it receives a love call.

You're right. OP should monitor load closely for a while. I'm assuming the server will be idling most of the time.

    No, no no

I expect, according previous monthly stats, for this server 40TB monthly. People download games from 3am to 11pm (average).

my night dream (delirium) is being slowly eroded from facts  i will look for a basic server grade cpu + mirror. I think it's the wisest choice so i sleep well

    Thanks anyone for your opinion

Well, if Europe fits your needs you can take a look at Hetzner auctions.

  • Thanks for the tip, i'll look there pointing to support their policy about abandonware. If i remember correctly Germany providers are strict usually with Copyright Infringements. (i have a big report button on every download page ofc)
