VaporNode acquired by SmartHost

VaporNode is now from SmartHost. I received the following email:

Dear Valued Customer,

Please be advised that VaporNode has recently been acquired by SmartHost, LLC (http://www.smarthost.net). SmartHost is a Web Hosting & Data Center Services provider, >established in 1998, based in Henderson, Nevada, USA, with operations in the US and >Europe.

SmartHost operates on the basis of providing very high-level customer service to our clientele, via one-on-one relationships we like to build. I would like to assure you that with SmartHost, you >will continue to receive the same level of service VaporNode provided you, if not better. SmartHost will NOT be raising prices, nor changing plans, and we will honor all accounts and > already in place from VaporNode.

VaporNode clientele will shortly have access to the full SmartHost suite of services including NVME SSD VPS, KVM/OpenVZ VPS, Linux/Windows VPS, Cloud Hosting, Storage VPS, Resource/Reseller >Pool VPS, Dedicated Servers, & Co-Location, all available across our multiple service locations. Current service locations include: Jacksonville FL, Los Angeles CA, Dallas TX, Las >Vegas NV, Piscataway NJ, Denver CO, Boston MA, Buffalo NY, Herndon VA, Chicago IL, London UK, and Amsterdam NL...with more locations planned moving forward, including WA and Sydney AU.

Over the next few weeks, SmartHost will be migrating your service on to our existing platform. The infrastructure to service the VaporNode client base has been installed and ready for service. By default we will be migrating the Florida-based VPS and Shared Hosting services >to our nearby Jacksonville FL location. Dedicated Server and Slot Hosting clientele we will be contacting and working with one-on-one individually to arrange for service migration. The IP space will be retained, and a hard cut performed for it to point to our Florida location, once data migration has completed. We hope to make this a smooth process behind the scenes for > client base, by just copying over existing data, and by not changing the IP space. Should you have any interest in being hosted at one of our locations other than Florida, or wish for just a fresh account sooner without data migrated, please do reach out to us, and we can arrange for >that to happen.

The VaporNode website(s) and billing/client interface will be redirected to the SmartHost system once the hard cut of the IP space occurs. Your account and service information has been into our system, and we are working diligently behind the scenes to get everything configured for >, and begin the data sync. Access details will be emailed to you once your account setup and service configuration has been completed. Once the billing/client system transition is completed, you will need to cancel all your current Paypal subscriptions (which we will attempt >to do from our side as well...) with VaporNode, in order to transition to the SmartHost, LLC Paypal payment account. If you wish to pay via automated Paypal subscriptions moving, please resign up for that when making your first invoice payment within the SmartHost system. There is a link on the invoices to easily complete this if so desired. offers the same Payment as VaporNode, as well as several others.

We look forward to servicing the VaporNode client base, and I think in a few months you will to look back on this and say that this was an acquisition that actually went smoothly and worked >out for the best!

If you have any questions at all about the operational changes from the acquisition, or any questions about SmartHost, please do not hesitate to ask! We can be reached via email at >@smarthost.net, at which I think you will find us quite responsive.

Regards,
Shawn M. Arcus

    The end is nigh.

Yeah just got that e-mail too, shame to see Vapornode go but at the same time I've been really liking my VPS with SmartHost so Vapornode's customers should be in good hands.

  • Disappointed to see the move from Tampa to Jacksonville.

Is that the same Shawn Arcus from the old Burstnet?

  • EIG 2.0 but not shit?

  • donlidonli Member

It was inevitable that a host named "Vapornode" would dissipate.

    Just got that mail too.

here we go again... i hope not need to change provider again...

VaporNode vaporizes for the second time in it's existence.

And another migration and IP change... just as a reminder from the first time around...

(Edit: Seems I may have misread and they intend to keep IPs for a bit but are moving clients to a new location, this isn't so clear? If so, that's at least better than having to renumber everything and switch up DNS for all the domains, I guess.)

Is it bad when VortexMagnus points out something "doesn't really make any sense" ?

    VortexMagnus Member

That's a real shame for customers and it doesn't really make any sense to be honest.

    Eat or be eaten.

Or in this case, whoever is offered more Steam games.

Well from what I just read there keeping the ip space and not changing ips...

Ya, I edited my reply but seems not before you loaded the thread.

    Cheers!

  • Clearly SmartHost is a smart host.
This is quite worth it, if it includes ProxCP's IP.

Very interested to see how things change.

Confirmed...IP addresses will NOT be changing for KVM and Storage VPS clientele. Fortunately those are leased IP blocks, and we can just move them over.
We want to make this as seamless of a transition as possible for the VaporNode client base.
Slot Hosting and Dedicated Server clients we will be working with 1-on-1 for a migration plan.

VaporNode has a good reputation in the industry, and we plan on maintaining or exceeding that for the acquired client base.

There are 12 service locations to choose from now as well, which open up som options for the client base... ;-)

Hah...nice to be mentioned in same breathe as such an industry giant, but on the other hand don't want to be mentioned with them!

Yes, we're dong some rollups in the low end VPS market, but in our case we try to improve service levels and actually give a darn about our clientele...

If EIG had bought them there would have been no announcement and they would have kept the old provider name for branding/marketing purposes.

Grats on the acquisition, but your website kinda throws me off.

Does your live chat button need to be super huge?

I feel like it can just be Let's chat live now only, instead of the chat now banner.

    Thank you.

That was default size from the chat system provider, just edited the image.
You can just X that out when it pops up...and it will not reappear.
There usually is a small button on top for chat otherwise...

  • Had a really cheap cPanel included VPS with @SmartHost - wish I'd kept it 'cos I can't replace it at the same price. :'( I was skint at the time and was 'cleaning out'; now I have twice as many VPS as before!

Don't like it neither. Too heavy.

It sure is a great acquisition. @vapornode was probably one of the best providers on LET, if not the best. Network in Tampa was pretty good, bandwidth mix in Jacksomville don't seem on par with what @Hivelocity was offering. Some locations can be interesting, though.

Will pricing stay the same for all customers @SmartHost ?

  • Both VaporNode and SmartHost are badass hosts. They will make some really cool babies :-) Can't wait to see!
    Congratulations, Shawn!

I think this was asked earlier, and it seemed as though Smarthost took over from the failed Burstnet - hope this company continues to do well, although anything is possible in situations like these.

I have to say, that's a refreshingly straightforward and informative acquisition e-mail. I've used neither provider personally, but this does seem more promising than most acquisitions...

I have a SmartHost VPS in VA and the performance has been excellent...support was really great too, Shawn responded to my ticket fast and was very friendly. Burst.net was around for a long time so hopefully it's the same with SmartHost.

Happy @vapornode customer here. Should we expect any downtime @SmartHost? Are you going to tell us when will the migration take place with days of anticipation?

  • LeviLevi Member

@SmartHost You should inspect ALL your website and fix those CGI scripts...

Yes, we are aware of the issue with that, and it was intentional.

Migration is already underway, and accounts are already being sync'd to our nodes. It will be an ongoing process over the next 1-2 weeks. You will be notified when your account is completed, so you can check on things, and also again in advance of the IP range being moved to point to our infrastructure. Not expecting any major downtime, as both sites will be operational at the same time temporarily, but there may be some IP weirdness while routes are updating following the IP space relocation. The old VaporNode infrastructure will be coming offline in mid-July.
