Because a VPS with 1 TB can be cheaper (~$5/month)
I'm puzzled by this logic/suggestion. But the first thought is that the VPS will be on raid and the dedicated won't be without the budget increasing several times over the VPS.

I've been happy with AlphaVPS (Bulgaria) as a private seafile + borg repos.
Absolutely no torrenting! ; you'll get disciplined because it's a RAID6 array IIRC
