Looking for a reliable East Coast OpenVZ VPS

Hi,

There are so many options and I'm not sure which are reliable. I just need 2GB of RAM (4GB would be nice), 25GB SSD, East Coast, everything else is whatever.

The server is hosting a NOMP (mining) pool. Low CPU usage once setup, but needs a stable connection.

I would like to keep it $18/yr or under if possible.

Frankly the budget is not realistic, 2-4GB RAM for VPS is not low requirements at all. As mining pool tends to attract DDOS attack, go for a host that is DDOS protected, I would suggest go with BuyVM.

Don't expect $18/yr unless it is Black Friday (even then I doubt the performance). You probably earn a lot more than that for hosting a mining pool. BuyVM 2GB package + DDOS Protected IP will "only" costs you $10/m, but the performance will be good.

  • I'd recommend @vapornode if you're looking for something reliable on the east coast. You'll have to pay a bit more than 18$/y for two GB ram though.

As @FAT32 said if you're on a really tight budget, you might have to wait until BF to find a great yearly deal. If you go that route, be careful with which provider you go with if you don't want to end up on oversold crap. If you rely on a node.js single threaded app you might need decent CPU power.

We can do this for you in our Virginia facility on our NVME SSD nodes, but as other have said...that price is not realistic for KVM with 2GB.

Ah, I understand. The pool doesn't really make money and I'm not worried about DDOS. Maybe OpenVZ would work, but I've had bad experiences with them. What's a healthy budget for 2GB KVM?

Thats good to host a mining pool with 0% fee :) OpenVZ could work if you are not worried about the pool funds got stolen (Unlikely for reputable hosts). Raise your budget to at least $3/m if you want reliable hosts with KVM.

If you can do OpenVZ, I can do this for you in New Jersey or New York. If can do SAS instead of SSD (RAID10 either way...) that opens up Virginia, Florida, and Massachusetts as well. Those are our five US East Coast locations currently...

The fee is 0.1% for a worthless coin lol. Mostly wanted to distribute hash power away from two pools. Funds are paid right after the block confirms, so not much in wallet.

Guess I'll give OpenVZ a shot. Thanks for the help.

  • Here are some additional contenders on the East Coast (BuyVM+VaporNode are already top notch and have been covered).

    a) AlphaVPS (@AlexBarakov) - they have machines in the Choopa/NJ center and I think also have KVMs there. Not sure on the DDoS side here.

    b) HostHatch (@Abdullah) had something going on for NYC as well. See: this

    c) @VirMach have good KVMs (and OpenVZ) that'll fit the bill for sure. You've be a bit careful on your CPU usage patterns but otherwise they've been very reliable for me. Of course no IPv6 but I don't think that matters for you. I don't think they're particularly strong on the DDoS fortress side of things either. So maybe not a great fit.

I don't know about the ToS restrictions on mining (many of the providers seem to be anti-anything-to-do-with-mining types).

Thanks for the options. I understand the restrictions, but the VPS itself isn't mining.
