Dedi or Reseller VPS

Hi Guys,

im working with a local partner that wants me to setup hosting for them.
i will be doing the day to day support for the hardware, setting up new instances etc.

Do i fork out fore dedi or just create a VPS for the instance as and when required?

im happy with the dedi as i have IT background, but not sure what to overlay it with (cpanel) or other auto deployment systems.

Also Backup and DR is a big part.

Cheers in advance.!

That will come down to the quantity of VPS being set up.
If just a handful, probably just order a VPS for each.
If a considerable amount, then it may become more beneficial to have a Dedicated Server that you slice up.
If budget does not matter, and project has funding from the start, Dedicated gives more control and more room for growth.

  • Hi, so assume and dedi, are there any good help on the best way to setup? automation etc.

    Cheers Guys.

  • You can use things like virtualizor, proxmox or solusvm. Depending on how important this business is, you may have to pay for some kind of 24/7 sysadmin service.

I was actually just looking at virtualizor

I recommend Proxmox for personal or client based use. Virtualizor if you want to do hosting at scale.

One thing to note...ProxMox is a little more complicated to migrate away from if you decide you don;t like it, while Virtualizor and SolusVM are a bit easier to switch between.

These are all panels. None of them are an os. Proxmox uses Debian.

  • I think you should hire a sysadmin if you really into bussiness..

Thanks are you free? As you obviously want the job.

We all need to learn somewhere, I've been working in IT for 15+ years. Running my own businesses.

Nope. I am working in Forestry sector. Server things just a hobby of mine..

  • I always recommend a dedicated server.

    • You will have more control over your servers
    • You know what is hosted in that server
    • You will have better performance if you know what you're doing.

Try using virtualizor, hyper-v, solusvm ect.

  • I'd recommend a dedi the same as jordynegen11 - with a hypervisor installed that you can then spin VPS' up on top of easily. This way you can create snapshots of the VPS' as work is being done, saving the hassle of rebuild/reconfig every time.

For automation, cPanel is likely overkill. SolusVM will be best (but also fairly pricey).
