Looking for a high core count server for a week
I want to start optimizing my plex library for directplay and would like to find a high core count server so that I can start queuing up transcodes. I would prefer the server be on a gig connection. memory shouldn't be a factor, i'm sure 4-8gb is fine. budget wise, i'm aware I can get a server from @Dedispec for a month at like $70-80 but i'm hoping to find something cheaper as I only need it for a week. Please let me know if someone has any offers or suggestions.
thanks in advance.

Vultr bare metal - 8 CPUs roughly $30/week
DigitalOcean CPU Optimized Droplets - 8 CPUs roughly $40/week
They offer hourly billing. It might suit your needs well.
Would it be cheaper to go with something like AWS? (don't know, so that's why I'm asking)
Scaleway have an ongoing € 100 credit promotion through the month of April - I think you can put that to good use with some of their servers.
I also know Vultr had(have?) a $100 promotion for using some of their servers also for a short while.
Not sure if the Vultr promo is still floating around but it was a really good server is what I heard. @eva2000 could possibly confirm.
Vultr is right now giving $50 credit to new users.

Too risky to rack up huge costs, with someone like Vultr they will terminate your instances if you dont stay in the green
Oh yea good point. Makes more sense to terminate to me.
Lunanode may provide superior potassium for this purpose
as per the "compute-optimized" tab on https://www.lunanode.com/pricing
a dedicated "vCPU" (thread?) can be had for about 2.8 cents per hour (less than $5 per week) on a kvm instance with 5 GB ram and 100 GB SSD and 3 TB traffic (per month - so a bit over 600 GB per week).
Larger configurations are available in Toronto up to 16 vCPU / 80 GB ram. (Also Montreal and Roubaix but looks like limited to 2 vCPU / 10 GB ram in those locations.)
If you can wait a few more days, a new 8 core KVM package which you can max out 24/7 should be available for around $12/mo.
Location please?
You need another idling server?
That just makes me feel bad...
Just get a Hetzner 4-core auction dedi for a month.
Hetzner CCX31
We can feel bad together. I am waiting for HH Chicago
I am waiting for one too
Anyway, I would really like to see such offer in west U.S. (preferably Seattle or LA) @exception0x876 !
Is this going to happen still?
Yes, but it is delayed due to node provisioning problems.
What will the hardware be, and how many VM's on the node?
16c/32t host with 8 VMs per node.
Location...? Please...?
EU
No love for western U.S.?
Its most likely on an OVH/Hetzner server
Thanks for mentioning our Cloud service. It's true, the CX31 would serve your needs if you are interested in using a VPS @vish. Here's the link to the specs: https://www.hetzner.com/cloud
Also, we bill our Cloud servers hourly if you are using the server less than a month. You can set up the server, use it for a week and cancel it after. Depending on the server and the hours you were using the server, it might only cost you a few bucks. Just noticed that cute signature from Julia and Katie about corny jokes. I hope nobody actually complained, although I wouldn't be surprised if there were complaints.
