Free server monitoring tools?

What would be the best free server monitoring tool? I find Munin (cpanel) quite simple. What I would like to know what is being executed on high load average time.

I have looked around and I have not able to find one that really does the trick.

Depends on your level of experience and what you want to monitor.

I can recommend HetrixTools for availability and simple general server monitoring.

How many machines are you monitoring? If just a few, HetrixTools free-tier would be suitable as @FHR mentioned.

If it's many machines, then I'd suggest looking into LibreNMS or Observium. Both work pretty well and have extensive features.

    Also: nodequery.com pretty great.
I don't like Observium, because it's has a lot of problems (used it in past).

Netdata looks good. Is it free? Can't see any pricing info on their website.

It is completely free and open-source

  • From what I know. Only HetrixTools has the option to monitor Shared hosting resource (disk, ram, i/o).

uptimerobot, pinguzo can't do those things.

  • +1 for HetrixTools

+1 for Netdata. So easy to setup!

  • I'm in the boat with HetrixTools, some features:

    • Agent data
    • IOWait usage
    • Swap usage
    • RAID health
    • Drive errors
    • Drive wearout
    • Drive S.M.A.R.T. self-test failure

Though nothing really beats configuring your own monitoring utility from the ground up with something like 4OpenNMS.
