I'm assuming they are using Raid 5 for this or Raid 1 + 1 standlone ?

According to OVH docs, it says the default is Raid 1?

https://docs.ovh.com/ca/en/dedicated/raid-soft/

Anyone have experience ?

By default it applies the best RAID configuration based on the number of the physical disks; in your case we are talking about 3 disks of 2TB each so it apply RAID 5.
Note: You're free to customize the partitions and RAID setup during the OS installation thanks to the initial wizard.

    On the / & /boot folder - Raid 1 only.

Other folders can be given Raid 0, 1, 5, 10:

On the MegaRaid servers put on more simple:

Thanks, never looked into the partition manager from ovh/sys.

  • I'm going to add that for swap they don't apply any RAID at all (not that you would want to). Instead what happens is that you will get 3 swap partitions (one per disk) for the size you specified. Something to keep in mind when determining how much swap you are going to want.

Why would you not want to have my swap space mirrored?
Otherwise if just a single drives fails, part of your swapped memory is lost.
    The end might be nigh.

As you usually do not need a lot of swap space, placing it on top of a small mirror is no big loss of space and more than advisable in my opinion.

    Swap sucks.
