Are emails coming from microsoft-antipiracy.com actually legit or just some scam ?

Domain is registered since 2000 has Privacy Enabled and even the temp page is hosted with Godaddy

Got a complain for one of the customers but I'm still not sure if this actually coming from microsoft or some scammer ? Because the complain that they have sent is a little difficult to verify and customer has paid long term with AliPay so it's not a churn and burn customer either

Any experience with them ?

Even i thought it's a scam but Microsoft won't allow such a domain since 2000

Naah it does not looks like a spoofed email either, i already checked headers etc....

I'm just concerned because this domain has privacy enabled and even does not have a website

Question was actually targeted to other providers, if they have ever dealt with emails coming from this domain

the website address looks scammy as anyway. surely microsoft would do something like piracy.microsoft.com or something along those lines. it was probably registered at the time of the phone scammer boom. thanks india.

    https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2006/09/7761/

    some excerpts

The notice advising web sites to take down the FairUse4WM program came from the domain Microsoft-Antipiracy.com, which according to DNS records belongs to Microsoft but is actually administered by the ISP Nildram Ltd

Interestingly, although Microsoft has never to our knowledge either admitted or denied a connection with Mr. Young or Microsoft-antipiracy.com, a friend of ours who worked at Microsoft at the time and wasn’t too happy about our DMCA, asked around, and wasn’t able to find anyone within the company who knew anything about it.
    [...]
    UPDATE: The plot thickens
Microsoft has responded, with wording that indicates that James Young may indeed work for or with Microsoft:

and similar reports ( here, here )
it's possible that they're "Internet investigators" (that's how they call themselves) operating for Microsoft, without pinpointing Microsoft's name too much
I'd ask for further proof about their identity & mandate according to your governing law (and possibly according to the law of the land your servers are hosted into), then I'd notify this long-term customer about the received notice and give him a chance to reply or comply

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. You can imagine our embarrassment at finding out one of our users was so publically condoning the use of Microsoft products.

  • I'm guessing not legit. It has a 'coming soon' page now and MS wouldn't do that. They've also, to my knowledge, never used protection for registering domains.

Check the headers, check the whois and use common sense.

  • What is the difficulty in verifying on the infringing copyright? Isn't it usually a link? Can you provide the contact details in the email rather than questioning the validity of a domain which has no basics in determining whether a complaint is valid.

  • It's legit, send them your credit card info

Did you even checked what I asked and what all info I already provided, it does appears to be a scam but just one question comes up that Microsoft won't allow anybody to use their trademarked Name and domain is registered since 2000, now if the domain is registered since 19 years, microsoft won't allow anybody to use their trademark illegally for so long, the domain is also registered with Godaddy (USA) if it was with some Russian registrar it could have been difficult for MS to have the domain suspended but with a US based registrar it's not difficult for MS to have the domain suspended.

My question was simple has anybody dealed with them ? especially any providers

How does it appear to be a scam? Every post that mentions that domain had a valid complaint. What is that domain scamming you of?

Sounds more like you are a host that ignored valid complaints of abuse imho.

Lol another assumption that we ignore abuse

It appears to be a scam as they don't have valid website and domain privacy is enabled

    No valid organisation will hide

There are some details that indicate it's Legit but some details indicate it's some kind of scam

They may want privacy if they receive threats and attacks. Doxxing, death threats, etc. Maybe Collection agencies do the same.

The strongest evidence is that it's a Microsoft named domain that isn't being taken down with the FBI.

Your template's pretty funny. But nowadays that'd mean no longer using Github : (
