High single core speed dedicated kvm core providers

I'm looking at hosting a gameserver on a single core of a kvm instance, with full dedicated use (100% allowed) such as with buyvm's kvm slice or the virmach addon for 5$ a month in us east or central. So far I've looked at the following:

BuyVM: SLICE 4096
1 core 3.5ghz, 4gb memory, 80gb ssd, $15 monthly

Virmach: SSD1G/SSD2G (with 40% coupon from new year)
1 core 3.0ghz, 1gb memory, 25gb ssd, $2.4+$5 for dedicated core=$7.4 monthly
2 core 3.0ghz, 2gb memory, 40gb ssd, $6+$10 for dedicated cores=$16 monthly

ExtraVM
1 core 5.0ghz, 3gb memory, 26gb ssd, $10.50 monthly
2 core 4.1ghz boost, 2gb memory, 30gb ssd, $10.50 monthly

HostDoc
2 core 3.4ghz, 1gb memory, 50gb nvme ssd, $9.30 monthly

Any other options, possibly with higher clock speeds? Is dedicated the only option? I'm trying to stay below $10 a month so right now it looks like Virmach is the way to go.
Thanks,
Robert

Do you "need" dedicated core? Many providers don't care if you have high CPU as long as you're not maxing the cores 24/7, and if your game server is hitting 100% on the cores for hours then there's probably some noticeable performance issues in the game.

  • True, I guess I don't really need a dedicated core, it would be nice for peace of mind though. I guess my question is what is a recommendation for a high single core speed vps provider with 1gb+ of ram for less than $10?

    Thanks for the reply.

You can take a look at KVM SSD i7 package here - https://www.wishosting.com/order/main/packages/VPS/?group_id=2

If you want to try out mine, at the moment I give extra RAM upgrade for plans for the Virginia location which run on i7-7700K which is OC'd to 5.0GHz, so a $6/m 1GB plan would be 2GB.

That's a great price. How stable are your 7700k s / what's uptime? What is the high cpu use policy? Also 13gb of ssd is way too small. Is a 30gb upgrade possible on 1gb and if it is how much?

@rawsh can't do extra space sorry :frowning: , you'd have to get a bigger plan which would be out of your budget.

Ah that's unfortunate, the server takes 25gb minimum

Can you guarantee 4.1GHz in the dallas location with the 2gb plan and 30gb ssd?

Edit: looked again and realized that's boost.

  • Maybe @hostdoc can do a thing for you in dallas

For how long this extra 1GB Ram offer is available? And is it given automatically or need to create a ticket. Thanks

For a long time probably. The Virginia servers have 64GB, but I sell less than 30GB on them since I don't want 50 VPS on a 4 core i7. It's better to just give free RAM or maybe charge $1-2 extra in the future than sell more VPS on it.

Cool i already got VPSes with you in FR and CA locations so it's time for me to get the US location as well. One more question just to confirm if US node is also in OVH? (because i will need those firewall rules)

Would you recommend Dallas for a gameserver? 4.1 is boost right?

    2vcpu is enticing.

I mean, it'll work, but it's not an i7, also DDoS protection is not nearly as robust as the protection provided by OVH's game firewall (which is available for all "KVM Game" plans).

  • Is one vcpu a logical thread?

Yes, it's only marketed as vCPU so it's known that it's not a dedicated CPU core.
