Shadowsocks is not VPN, it's a proxy.
I never get blocked by using Shadowsocks(libev server and client, always up-to-date).
Shadowsocks can be detected since no many other software always communicate using full encrypted TCP all the time. But because unknown reason it's not blocked.

Is there any VPS in mainland China that doesn't require ID verification? It's mandatory with AlibabaCloud and I don't think I'm comfortable with that. It's just for monitoring/testing purposes, not doing anything nefarious, so I don't mind otherwise restrictive acceptable use policy or low bandwidth.

even if you use a China vps, you still can't access to the blocked site, better go for a nearest outside China VPS, eg Hong Kong or Korea vps, got better connection when you using RDP to the vps and surf on it.
