Finding Cheapest Storage Server
Hi,
I am looking for a server to host downloadable files only. I used xenpower.com and soyoustart.com for file storage. since storage server is so cheap now, i want to buy a server with more disk space at minimum price. i check lowendstorage.win regular but some suitable vps are never been on stock i see. now i have some provide in mind. in other hand,i found ovh provide some storage dedicated server at cheapest price. kimsufi and SYS has 1TB and 2TB disk with unmetered bandwidth at just 6$. i will install centos 7 and nginx stack to host files under just 1 subdomain.
Should i use them, or use UltraVPS, Time4VPS, LetBox, crowncloud, HostSolutions or any other and why?

have you checked the helpful suggestions from this other thread? https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/140717/cheap-storage-server-vps-with-unlimited-bandwidth#latest
that was an unsolved mystery BTW here is requirement is slight different.
Ultravps has bandwidth limit, you won't get unlimited plans,time4vps is cool enough but have limitations with High ends, hosolution Is deadly slow, you will not like but if speed is not issue you can go for it even in non-rushing time,I always get 3 mbps speed and with time4vps I stretch to 10 mbps.
How much space do you need?
If you find any dedicated, please let me know as well.
@Umair I got a notification saying you mentioned me in your post, but it looks like you edited that out
I'd recommend BuyVM KVM slices (https://buyvm.net/kvm-dedicated-server-slices/) and storage slabs (https://buyvm.net/block-storage-slabs/). The cheapest slice is $1.25 per month for ¼ CPU, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB SSD storage, then you can add extra storage "slabs" at $1.25 per month per 256 GB (= $5 per TB). Probably not the cheapest, but really high quality stuff, and you can resize the storage slab (eg. start with 256 GB, then upgrade to 512 GB when you need more space)
cheapest slice is 3.50+1TB block 5= $8.50. where kimsufi 1TB is 6$ and SYS 2TB is also 6$.
actually i am confused which one should be better. thats why i ask for opinion here. and maybe there is something better in also cheap as kimsufi/sys
The Kimsufi/Sys machines have really low end CPU's - so they're not really useful for anything other than storage (and it is going to be slow to some extent with encryption). BuyVM's VPSs have significantly better CPUs and of course RAID protected storage - so ideally you're never going to lose data because of a "disk crash". Which to pick depends entirely on what you want to do with it.
There's really no comparison at all in that sense.
Thanks... I made a mistake in my earlier post (saying the cheapest slice is $1.25 per month when it's really $3.50 per month) and it's too late to edit it now.
There's a lot of differences between the two. @nullnothere touched on many of the main points. BuyVM have a pretty good CPU (not sure if they're all the same, but the node I'm on has an Intel Xeon E3-1270 v3 @ 3.5 GHz) whereas Kimsufi use very low-end non-enterprise-grade hardware (or at least they used to, not sure if that's still the case). BuyVM use RAID so that a single drive failing won't totally lose your data (note that RAID is NOT an alternative for backups... please still back up your data).
In my experience, BuyVM's network is also quite a bit faster, whereas Kimsufi/OVH/SYS networks aren't as good - Lots of comments about network issues on their Black Friday thread: https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/153754/ovh-sys-black-friday-launched-recurring-offers-on-dedicated-servers/p2.
You definitely get more "bang for your buck" at Kimsufi or SoYouStart though, since you can get an entire server (rather than just a slice of a server) and a lot of disk space for relatively cheap.
@Daniel15 But major problem is most of the packages are out of stock in almost every website.
@bdspice You can use https://buyvmstock.com/ to check if BuyVM have stock, or sign up to email alerts. Make sure you look in Las Vegas, as their storage slabs are only available in Vegas at the moment. They do appear to have some stock this morning.
I think there's a similar tracker for Kimsufi stock that'll alert you when it's available.
thanks thats impressive. but i am little bit confused, if i buy both, do i need anything extra to do for attach both and make usable? or just i can use storage slice like normal kvm?
A slab is like a disk that you can plug in to any VPS. It'll appear as
/dev/sda
and then you can do whatever you want with it, partition it, format it, mount it, etc.
