How to set cPanel's cluster DNS (correctly)?

Hi there,

For the first time ever I am setting cPanel's cluster DNS and I am unsure if I am doing it in the right place.

I have two servers:
s1.servername.com
s2.servername.com

with two nameservers, each one contains one IP of each server:
ns1.servername.com (IP of s1.servername.com)
ns2.servername.com (IP of s2.servername.com),

Then I created a cluster from s1 to s2 with the option write-only, and created another cluster connection from s2 to s1 with write-only.

Is this the right configuration? Should I use sync instead of write-only? Or is there a better way of clustering?

Thanks in advance!

cPanel has very good online documentation. I would suggest you read it.

    https://documentation.cpanel.net/display/72Docs/DNS+Cluster

  • i have ns1->ns2 write only
    on ns2 i have standalone

I already did thanks, but I think my post is whereas my configuration is right or if it is one better.

With that config, server one will write all changes to server 2, whereas server two will not report back to s1 right?

  • Server 2 is just there for redundancy - you never even log onto it other than to ensure its updated.

It seems to me you should set both to sync since you have 2 master servers and want dns records shared between both of them in both directions.

Using dedicated cPanel dnsonly instances is the better way.

  • i may have misunderstood - im using this setup with dnsonly instances.
