My servers I buy at a local store that sells items bought from tech auctions. Got 2xquads with 4gb ram at like $100 1u supermicro board/case. Popped ssd in it and some storage drives. Shipped it to oplink.net for $40/month hosting at 100mbit up/down unmetered. Can't beat that :-)
What I do now is befriend someone with 1gbit network at home. Now I can build my servers using cheap desktop stuff and swap out if needed quickly. Currently got a fx-8350 CPU running my server.
So do you use searchtempest or something for craigslist? I can't happen to find a deal half as good as the ones Reece pointed out on eBay anywhere on craigslist.
Seems like a nice deal. Never knew you could get 1gbit network at home.
If anyone needs 1U colo for their stuff @ Infomart Dallas, Tier 3, SSAE16 Type 2, PCI Compliance, we can do this for $49 10TB @ 100mbit. AS62638. Own network - blend is Internap / Cogent.
We offer such services and our customers don't end up paying much more than they would if they had bought the server directly off eBay--the only difference is that we provide hosting for 12 months :-)
any good and cheap colo (like GoRack/ Dacentec) on the West coast?
FiberHub has some great prices on colocation. They are located in Las Vegas, NV. In addition to our Seattle space, we have a cabinet with FiberHub and their service has been fantastic.
hmm.. FiberHub is $59.95, not in GoRack/Dacentec range of 30-40...
GoRack doesn't offer super cheap 1U colo plans anymore. I think their advertised 1U 1A 10Mbps rate is $59/m now
if Colo at $59, i think Dedicated is better at +$10/$20 and hav more peace..
@talsit did u get Chromobyte from any WHT offer they had posted or frm their website ?
I got it from a link here on LET, it's the same deal they have on their website for Chicago BDS, but the last time I checked they were out of stock.
For my West Coast server I have one hosted with AquaNX. They seems to be real good and located in San Jose, CA (Coresite location). I have 1gbit up/down, 10TB traffic, 1U for $75month. I had to negotiate the price, but I was their first colo hosting client also. If you want a test IP let me know, you can try mine out. This was ideal for me since I live in the Bay Area.
@doughnet i already got ur Test IP - $75 , its unreachable for me...
like i said at this price shud forget Colo & go for Dedicated(for 2-3 server ppl), atleast u don't have to worry of hardware replacements etc.
looks like as of now, i have to be contended with my $40 Colo at Dacentec.. :P
I wonder how Dacentec could offer 12 months RTO servers for $50/mo...
I looked into those, they are using the Dell CS24-SC's ($100-$200 on E-bay) using HP and Supermicro now and charging monthly for more memory and HDD.
It's not a bad deal they just didn't have stock when I made up my mind to jump on RTO.
Edit, okay, it's PFM... I wonder what the colo charge is on those post-RTO with that plan, they wanted more per month to colocate my server (1U/2A/10TB/month) than they are charging on the L5520 RTO.
