Usually used in all Google Cloud services. As the name suggest, it is used to host contents created by users that is under Google but not necessary by Google.

(Image or thumbnail caches in search result might be resolved under this domain)

  • As the domain name implies, content uploaded by users to Google.

Google certainly won't be that dumb enough to host user created content on *.google.tld. That brings in too much liability.

Has nothing to do with liability, and everything with performance and security. Hosting user content on a cookie-less domain is a fairly well-established way to 1) slightly speed up your requests by sending along less headers, and 2) prevent accidental access to Google-wide cookies from untrusted user content.

(Pretty much every major site that deals in user-provided content does the same thing.)
