OVH VPS SG/AU new pricing (starts from AUD$3.00/US$2.50)

edited June 2018 in General

Looks like OVH has dropped their SG & AU VPS pricing and this is a recurring price. The lowest range (VPS SSD APAC 1) is AUD$3.00 or US$2.50 (previously AUD$6.00) monthly exc. GST.

https://www.ovh.com.au/vps/#ssd-discover

VPS SSD APAC 1
1 vCores (at 3.5GHz)
1 GB RAM
30 GB SSD
1000 GB of traffic/quota @100Mbps (speed shaped to 10Mbps if quota is exceeded)
Anti-DDoS included
1 x IPv4 included (purchase additional IPs , up to 16, One-off fee: $3/IP)
1 x IPv6 included

    AUD 12 = USD <9

for 4Gb - not bad! (Add a bit salt: You need to pay for 1 year and they charge GST (at least for SG location))

I remember that they had 6AUD but with 50% discount for discover, it became 3AUD. So discover promo was completely a joke?

  • Wow. Finally I can get cheap VPS in Asia.

  • No GST for me and can pay monthly

In what currency did you pay? USD?

Or maybe they decreased prices because they're growing in asia - when you start out in a new location your prices might be higher due to current demand, which by default makes the cost higher.

It's always easier to decrease prices than increasing prices :-)

BHS was also more expensive in the beginning than their FR locations, so clearly they also scammed (as LET would call it) people there.

Be happy you can get a machine for $2.5USD :')

    Yes, USD.

    great news :)

  • This will definitely have a domino effect to DO, Vultr and others. A good start for the pricing battle in APAC.

I placed order 3 hours ago and vps isn't activated yet
    Isn't it instant activation?

  • Wow thats realy good price for cheap Singapore VPS.
The only thing that bothers me is the traffic limit.

It's unmetered 10Mbps once it reached 1TB and no other provider can beat this at this price with 1GB ram

Not bad at all. Bought the 4EUR one, and the performance is decent enough.

    1790 MB of RAM? Scam.

  • williewillie Member

This offer is interesting. Bandwidth from AU used to be very expensive and so there weren't many low cost VPS there. Now they're even cheaper than EU? I wonder what's going on. No idea what comparative demand is like or how many of the customers actually want CN bandwidth.

To those whining about the 1000GB cap/throttle: you must be kidding, or have no idea what things were like not long ago, at least regarding AU (don't know about SG).

I don't think this will be a permanent price. It's listed under "Discovery Offer" implying it's some sort of special offer (even if recurring price) and OVH has raised its prices before.

Maybe they didn't sell many at their introductory offer...

They have discovery servers in the US and other places but they all cost MORE than the main EU/CA locations, shrug.

If you seriously don't care between these two, then you might as well get Europe.

Location-wise, AU only makes sense if you or your audience are in Australia itself. Singapore makes sense for half of the world. :)

willie said: Now they're even cheaper than EU?

They are NOT cheaper than EU, the EU ones have 2x RAM and unmetered bandwidth (all for 1 EUR extra, if we compare the cheapest plan). It's not like it's just the same plan and wow 1 EUR cheaper.

In past i had a couple of OVH VPSes in EU and CA but sadly OVH VPS there are limited to 2.5Ghz speed. The one being used in AU and SG are 3.5Ghz this makes the offer more interesting.

It's not recurring. ovh.de specifically mentions that it is a discount for the first 12 months only and that the renewal price depends on whatever price they wanna charge in 12 months.

Hello @torrbox, Looks like the T&Cs have not been updated correctly on OVH.de. We will update them asap. I confirm the offer is recurring and by the month on all our OVH websites.

  • Aside from the 100 Mbps bandwidth "limit", are there any other "limits" here? I think I read somewhere that OVH VPSs have limited IOPS, even on SSD...can anybody confirm?
