Are there any providers that offer 1 core (non-vCore) with low end specs?
Hello again! My game instance server is written in crystal-lang, which utilizes 1 core. I was looking at some providers today (BuyVM, Virmach, RamNode, OVH, and ServerCheap).
This got me thinking of something. A dedicated 1 core VPS with low end specs.
The closet I found (AFAIK), is with BuyVM. For example, looking at https://buyvm.net/kvm-dedicated-server-slices you'll see the dedicated core plan start at $15/m. However, 4GB memory is far more than the server will need. Same for the storage space.
Are there any hosts that offer something w/ 1 dedicated core, 1GB (or less!) of ram and 5GB SSD?
Is this something we could ask the provider via a ticket/email, or would it be unprofessional / weird?

It would cost the provider to offer a small resource VPS with dedicated CPU core, unless they just say it's dedicated but host a bunch of shared CPU clients. Easier to find a host that doesn't care about you maxing out the core but doesn't explicitly offer dedicated cores.
That makes no sense. It won't be able to know whether it's on a dedicated core (and "core" in vps marketing always means a vcore). If it's hogging cycles and you're running it 24/7 then you do need dedicated resources.
There are some dedicated non-vcore vps on old non-hyperthreaded hardware sometimes but that's probably not what you want.
Look, if you can afford it, get yourself a dedicated server. It will make you a very happy user. It's like having your own car after years of riding the bus every day. If you don't mind it being in EU, you can get a quite fast 4-core one from Hetzner auction for under 25/month which is insanely cheap. You can then run all 4 cores at 100% 24/7 and nobody will bother you. You'll have 6TB of disk space and 16GB or even 32GB of ram, and gigabit transfer with good speed in EU (crappy to the US unfortunately). You can put ALL your stuff on it. Do it, stop pissing around worrying about whether your VPS is overloaded. A real dedi is a completely different ballgame and you will feel like a king.
I think wishosting offer this on some of their plans.
It's just not profitable for the host.
Even if it's an E5 with lots of cores...
OVH Public Cloud is dedicated resources but way outside LET price range. Unless you need it for just a few hours you're better off with dedi hardware.
Usually the ratio of physical resources is 1 CPU thread : 4 - 10GB of RAM.
If you want dedicated cores, you need to respect this.
Yeah, I was just curious because it wouldn't be fair for the crystal game instance server to only utilize a virtual core, because if it has access to 1 dedicated one, it will perform way better. But the ram and SSD space is always mountains more than I'll never need (I feel like I'm paying more than I should). But after reading the replies here @FHR and others, it seems like it's just not worth it to the provider. And that's totally understandable
@willie I really am enticed with Hetzner, however, they don't have any in the US AFAIK. I apologise for not mentioning location.
Thank you all for your honesty, I am thinking a dedicated server would be more appropriate. It's more fair to the provider, and other users on the network
Vapornode has 1/2 dedicated core starting at $6 or a full dedicated core at $12.
Netcup - Root server
Perhaps an "unlimited CPU" plan in Canada from @exception0x876 ?
Linode
You can get powerfull CPU Cycles with dedicated cores from 2,49 (€ 4,99 for full 100% usage)

Ionswitch (www.ionswitch.com) documents our dedicated resources in our knowledgebase, which is VPS2 ($7) = 1/2 core, VPS4 ($14) = full core.
We have a 15% off coupon that still should be valid, and if you prepay for a year, it should be effectively $10/m for a VPS4, or $5/m for a VPS2.
@JohnMiller92
I mean, there's always Netcup...
They are in Germany. But in early June rumors are that there will be an OVH flash sale where you might be able to snag a BHS (near Montreal, Canada) dedi if BHS is close enough to the US for you. I've used that location for years and don't see it as much different from eastern US locations distance-wise, but I don't know where you are.
NFO has dedicated cores...there running a coupon
Monthly price: 14.99 USD -> 9.99 with special code HRJTSH (valid through June 9)

If you pay every 3 months knock another buck off or 10%
I have used them on and off since 09 no complaints, good hardware, network and customer service
