Is server time sync via NTP standard?

emjemj Member

So I wonder how much time offset do you guys find normal? ATM one of my hosting providers runs 110 seconds too slow, this really mess up anything I do cross servers since date stamps are all wrong.

This is the situation on the containered server

 /usr/sbin/ntpdate -p 2 -q pool.ntp.org |tail -n1
 19 Apr 07:10:04 ntpdate[8892]: step time server xx.xx.xx.xx offset 109.458037 sec

For reference this is from three random servers from different providers I sync these KVMs with NTP myself and it works ok, also included home desktop.

 offset 0.000207 sec
 offset -0.000652 sec
 offset -0.001709 sec
 offset 0.000010 sec (home)

On openvz it must be done as it affect all containers

@emj contact the provider and inform to load ntp in host or sync ntpd. Sure they will do
