Small VPS in Germany/France (nameserver)
Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a VPS to run a nameserver on in ether Germany or France (or both depending on the price).
I'm looking for:
128MB ram (for container based, otherwise 256MB)
1 CPU (shared is OK, 50% is OK)
~ 5-10GB disk (harddisk is ok)
~ 250GB traffic (not that I will hit that limit)
1x IPv4
1x IPv6 (required, please don't offer without)
Plus if your network has peering to AMX-IX.
Budget: couple of dollars a month

For Germany, take a look at Hetzner's (relatively recent) Cloud offerings - KVM based with 1vCPU/2GB RAM/20GB (NVMe) Disk/20 TB BW. Significantly more than you asked for at €2.49 (plus VAT as applicable).
I'm not sure on the AMX-IX peering but I think it's a yes (or at least good enough peering).
For France, I guess OVH's VPS offerings (higher price per month unless you're willing to lock into an annual contract) should be pretty decent. Not sure on the price but check them out https://www.ovh.ie/vps/
Hi,
KVM Basic Edition Light:
https://www.first-root.com/vps-configurator/kvm-basic-e2-light-special/
If you live within the european nation VAT will be added to this price.
I have a secondary DNS server with Liteserver, I can vouch for them. They are located in The Netherlands, very close to Germany (Heerlen). They have IPv6.
Hi! - You should have a look on our kvm offers: https://www.kms-hosting.com/rootserver, our Root 1G covers your requirements.
Our network is well connected to both DE-CIX and AMS-IX peers over one of our upstreams.
Nice to see another German (provider) here
thanks, being around since 2011 but never signed up on let, don't known why
In EU no one can kill hetzner prices (still). Am waiting for ovhcloud.com to see how they will react.
You can find information about our peering points and private peerings here: https://www.hetzner.com/unternehmen/rechenzentrum/
For questions about the new Hetzner Cloud servers, we have a useful FAQ https://wiki.hetzner.de/index.php/CloudServer/en or you can reach our technicians at +49 (0)9831 505-148 or via https://www.hetzner.com/support-form

Similar to Hetzner you have netcup - their VPS 200 gives you 1core, 2gb ram, 20gb ssd and 40tb traffic with ipv6 support for 2,69€ (VAT included); Being able to mount own iso and free screenshot are very cool features as wel
For france ovh and online.net are good options, on the other side, linode, vultr and digitalocean are also reasonable options.
Hi,
our KVM mini deal might be interesting for you:

Includes IPv4 (1x) and IPv6 (/112 10x)
Location Germany, Frankfurt am Main
Price: 1,85€ monthly https://deinserverhost.de/cart.php?gid=29
Despite that I am really pleased with Liteserver and absolutely vouch for Callum's great service, I believe he is not located in Heerlen. AFAIK part of his IP space is, but most of the servers are in Serverius DC I, located in Dronten, Flevoland. Still a data centre known for being focussed on Germany as well. Though I doubt Poster is gonna pick for Liteserver, I want Callum to know he should keep up the good work
Looks like you're right, I found this in their KB: https://clients.liteserver.nl/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=7.
But most definitely, @LiteServer is doing an awesome job. I have an active service with them for a couple years now. I travel a lot, but wherever I am, I know I can always connect back to The Netherlands and enjoy myself some crappy Dutch TV so that I still feel a bit connected to the mainland :-). Never had any issues with them, not even from the most exotic countries out there.
Thanks guys I will look into the suggested options! I don't want a DC in the Netherlands as I already have my main VPS there
