EU host for SVN/Git?

I've been looking at Scaleway but am being put off by the fact they don't have a download speed test. Anyone know if their network is any good to the UK?

I'm from the UK and want a host with fast storage and bandwidth to be used as an svn/git server for myself and on some occasions a small team to host Unity and Unreal projects.

The specs I'm looking for are:

  • Good connection/drive speed 40Mbps+
  • 1TB bandwidth
  • 25GB+ SSD
  • Cheap as possible
  • UK host ideal
  • Download speed test

Thanks.

  • I just posted this comment in another thread but I think it might be useful/relevant to you as well. Way better specs than Scaleway IMHO.

  • Scaleway is on the online.net network, so you can get your speedtest files from ping.online.net

What about our 4G plan? Should fit your needs perfectly and we have London, UK nodes. https://alphavps.bg

    Hello,

Here are our dedicated servers : https://www.ikoula.com/en/dedicated-server

Here are our hosted NAS : https://www.ikoula.com/en/dedicated-server#synology

  • @Ikoula The OP asked for 25 GB for VCS hosting in the UK.
You suggest 2 TB on dedicated hardware in France.

    I hope you're just joking.

Back to topic: for fast storage in the UK, you can take a look at VMHaus (though you're already in the $7 range to get your space requirement on their NVMe), InceptionHosting (don't know Anthony's current offers), or Vultr ($5 for 25 GB).
For cheaper offers, you could consider something in the Netherlands; network speed and latency to the UK should still be fine. I can recommend UltraVPS and Liteserver there (I'm planning to move my own Gitolite to one of them, or maybe mirror it on both).

Oh, and feel free to hit Vultr/UltraVPS/Liteserver via the referral links in my signature. More money for pizza! ;)
The UltraVPS link applies 15% discount for the first six months; Liteserver has a 25% promo code "HAPPY2018" directly on their website.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.
I've just looked at the terms and conditions and payment model for Scaleway and it's the ugliest thing I've seen for a long time.
So far it looks like I'll be going with Digital Ocean or Hetzner.

Please don't use DigitalOcean. Their performance and resources for the price are merely average, and they have a history of spitting in their customers' faces (the most pressing example for me being the broken IPv6 which has been "on the roadmap" ever since somewhen in 2014).
In my book, claiming they will fix something and then not doing it is even worse than outright refusing to do it. I really don't like to be taken for a fool.

And with Hetzner's new Cloud servers, there's finally something that performs better, deploys faster, is standards-compliant, and still has great support (from my experience with Hetzner over the past few years).

    No and you ?

    i will answer you.

OP mentionned ideal when he mentionned UK, France is not so far

Then even if it might be obvious it is not said he is looking specifically for a VM.

And the most important thing for me was OP asked for a way to test host's bandwidth which is something i could provide.

All this reasons made me think i could answer OP.

    Have a good day
