VPS between $5-15

So essentially the one I have found closest to this is Hetzner new Cloud VPS. I'm looking for more than 5TB bandwidth, at least a 1Gbps uplink, 2vcores+ and 100GB+ of storage. The max I can really afford is $15 a month give or take.

I was really close with Hetzners new offerings, however the thing that kills me is the limited storage space. I go well above my max limit for only 160GBSSD. The next tier down is 80GBSSD.

I am looking into serverz.pro, but I wanted to see if there were any other options.
Thanks so much guys!

  • Do you care about the location at all?

  • I run cloud's fast storage for webapp, and the bulk file storage in https://www.hetzner.de/storage-box for excessively cheap, it is mounted WEBDAV, SAMBA CIFS, in low latent.

Not at all. Just as long as can get decent speeds.

Though I'm not able to do anything with the CPU like transcode with Plex right? I wanted to get a Hetzner storage box except it can't transode, sadly lol

  • oh, you are doing copyrighted content infringement?

I'm fairly certain you can transcode on the cloud server (you mount the storage box on your cloud server like a normal drive)

  • Oh, yes! I see what you mean now. Yeah, i have been debating getting a storage box along with a cloud server, though the TB limit is what gets me a little lol... Cause I need to upload to gdrive for thee unlimited storage.. I just need a bit more room than 80gb SSD to unpack things and such

To where? What’s decent, based on your use case?

If we don’t know what you need specifically, it’s going to be harder to point you at the best possible option.

I think this is the best option. Plus IIRC, internal traffic is unmetered. All in all should be well under your budget for your specs.

I would have suggested @UltraVPS (see https://www.ultravps.eu/en/) but they only provide 1 core. You should definitely consider them if you can manage resource wise.

Then there's Netcup's many options - see https://www.netcup.de/vserver/. Their Root Server line up should satisfy you and they're pretty performant with generous traffic limits as well. Tagging @Falzo who can help you get a discount on your first order with them.

Fair enough, I'm wanting decent speeds to stream Plex to the USA and be able to maintain great upload speeds to gdrive. I'm also wanting to use it for racing torrents and Usenet. However, I'm concerned with small storage spaces for moments if I were to download a larger amount of something all at once... I doubt I'd go over 30gb at once though. Maybe for a season of a TV series? ... But then it has to also unpack usually... Then I need to copy it to drive and remove it because I won't have enough space.

  • Ok, so given your requirements, I’m going to go ahead and recommend BuyVM’s 4096 slice to you. It’s at the top of your budget range, and isn’t an exact match for your requirments, but given your use case I think they’re a very good fit for you.

You need to bear in mind that a lot of providers are not torrent-friendly, and will toss you out on the first transgression. @Francisco typically has a much more measured approach to issues of this nature. I’d encourage you to have a discussion with him in private to see if you can work together.

If you can move up to $19/mo then I can lease you one of my dedicated servers I'm not using for https://www.wpegg.io.

    Located in Kansas City, AMD Phenom II X4 970 4 x 3.5ghz, 500 GB Sata, 8gb DDR3 ram, 1gbps dedicated port, 100TB transfer.

    Link: https://www.wpegg.io/clients/order.php?step=1&productGroup=6&product=10

Note: you'd only have access to SSH (you'd have about everything you'd need, access to reboot, etc anyways). You'd have to contact us for reinstalls with the desired iso.

So to be absolutely clear, you’re representing wpegg.io here?

I ask as you don’t have a provider tag (yet), butbuse the royal ‘us’.

    1. SSD is expensive but it sounds like you'd be fine with HDD, so your budget is fairly easily met.

    2. Hetzner network speed to the US sucks some of the time, so your idea of streaming from DE might not work so well. Go for a US-based or maybe BHS (Canada) server.

    3. BuyVM's old line of storage servers is expensive for pure storage these days, but they have plenty of cpu and you will get an automatic upgrade to the refresh product once it comes out, from what I understand. So I'd consider it: https://buyvm.net/storage-vps/ If you don't really need the 2 vcores, the 250gb $7 one might suffice for what you're asking.

That'd be correct, if the transaction occurred it would be done through wpegg.io. It's really just a spare server we have sitting around however, and not really a "offer" per se.

Nothing wrong with your conduct, I just wanted the OP to be clear that your post was ‘sales’ rather than an independent recommendation.

I agree, their RS line might be a good fit: https://www.netcup-offers.eu/bestellen/produkt.php?produkt=1550 starting from 8.99€ or less depending on the contract term length you choose.

pricing includes german VAT - which they won't remove for international non-business customers though. also be aware that you need to cancel in advance otherwise it will renew automatically.. (they might send a debt collector after you, if you believe simply ignoring them will be a way to do business :-D)

performance is really decent for that price, cores (more likely threads) are dedicated and you get 320GB SAS, which is quite fast and their bandwidth policies allow something like 20TB on shared Gbps before they might apply any further limiting.

lately they prohibit mining on their VMs , so no noisy neighbours (so far this wasn't a problem anyway, at least for me)

now go order and don't forget to grab a 5€ off code from my signature ;-)

I was with Netcup.. and for what they are offering it's great! However, my guess is that because of the shared 1Gbps I wasn't able to properly download and seed torrents quick enough. However, I will say that they have been my favorite all around box so far, minus that one thing.

If I didn't have to share that 1Gbps then I'd be sold lol
