Anycast, multi-DC, mirrored hosts?

I am looking for any service --VPS or shared -- which comes with the option of anycasting from multiple DCs by having your content replicated in those places.

Does such a service exist?

Apparently A2Hosting has one, priced at $3 or so. But I'm not convinced anyone can offer this at that price point. Has anyone tried this? Or is this a scam? https://www.a2hosting.com/anycast-dns-hosting

I've already had a bad experience with them, where I ordered a VPS and it turned out to be OpenVZ-based. (My fault for not asking them before ordering.)

I also know about this https://buyvm.net/anycast-vps/ "Anycast is free for all BuyVM VPS customers. Your total cost will be three VPS purchases. "

But it's EU and US only. I need Asia + US.

I can also see a previous discusson on this topic two years ago. Have things moved on from there? https://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/69980/anycast-vps

Apparently Vultr was conducting trials at the time. Apparently nothing came of them?

  • @francisco at BuyVM & Dom @clouvider can offer Anycast solutions. You'd have to take care of replication yourself though.

  • Replication is a pain, especially on a DB-based system like Wordpress. If I could manage to keep the DBs in sync, I wouldn't need a specialized host for this. I can just use Amazon Route 53. The challenge is to keep the DBs synced (and it's not as simple as setting up a master-slave replication.) Perhaps a master-master may work, as changes can happen at any location, and locking the DB for the CMS won't work with Wordpress.

Why don`t you use hyberdb wordpress plugin.

  • I'll try that. Thanks.
