I need a Windows VPS: 4gb, 2 or 4 cores, 40gb hdd

I need a windows VPS with the following specs:

VZ Type: KVM

Number of Cores: 2 or 4 (see additional info below!)

RAM: 4gb

Disk Space: 40gb

Disk Type: ANY

Bandwidth: 1TB is more than enough.

Port Speed: 100mbps

DDoS Protection: No.

Number of IPs: 1

Location: ANY in US/UK/EU

Budget: $100

Billing period: Yearly

Additional info:

I am going to run two firefox instances with a macro to visit websites.

Here is my current utilization:

Screenshot 1: https://gyazo.com/5710541652a6e7d129158321492a026d

Screenshot 2: https://gyazo.com/f4ca373e7616fdbd4bb8aac2aadc434d

As you can see there is barely any I/O operations or network utilization (1mbps) but firefox uses a lot of CPU. I don't necessarily need 2 or 4 vcores, if I can have a dedicated one, or a powerful enough to run the two firefoxes. (current CPU type is visible on the second utilization screenshot.

What is wrong with your current VPS option, weak CPU performance? So you need dedicated CPU cores/threads? Or is it all just about the money?

  • Nothing. I just need another at another provider too.
My current one is at virmach, so they are out.

Get a slice at @Francisco 's BuyVM. It's not $80 per year, ask him for a custom price. You'll not find a cheaper stable option for those specs.

  • Yoka said: VZ Type: ANY (I have no clue)

You would need KVM for Windows.

I have modified thx. I have no clue about VZs.

Are you sure you really need 2-4 cores and 4GB memory? If it is just for something like hitleap or visiting sites, you really want dedicated resources not to cause issues to the node's neighbours. The 1/2 of a powerful core (dedicated) is more than enough to let you run without issues a couple of firefox instances and you will not need more than 2GB memory for that (if you add more, it will cache more but you really dont need it). So, SLICE 2048 @ 7$ per month is in your budget, will do for your needs and you will have an actuall windows license there, not a 180 days trial like most of cheappie windows vps providers.

Their 4GB Windows VM is $180/yr. So I guess it's quite possible to find a cheaper stable option, even with license included, not to mention Trial/BYOL ones. @vapornode might be able to offer that.

I have no idea how many cores do I need, I just see that with 2vcores I have 100% utilization, so I make my request based on that. I am not a sysadmin, I am a digital marketing manager, with less IT knowledge than you have. Of course, a dedicated but more powerful core would do it. I just checked and a windows server license starts at $500+ :-D
That's totally not in my budget.

I am mostly suggesting the 2048 option.

What cores do the current plan you have uses? If they are vcores, then, they are highly caped and you only get a fraction of their real power. Also, if they are old cpus, then, even 4 cores would work on 100% but a newer and more powerful core would have in same environment minimal usage.
So, number of cores is somewhat irrelevant in your needs, you have to see what are your real needs in terms of cpu power. It is far better to get dedicated resources (e.g. the whole 1/2 of a real cpu). Get a month of this plan and try it. I suspect that it will fit your needs.

You will not need a whole dedicated server with a windows server license just for running a couple of firefox instances! It is a huge overkill! A vps with licensed windows from the provider will do fine.
But, have you ever thought of using a linux vps with desktop and run there your firefox instances? Debian / Centos is by fare more light from windows OS, you can run a perfect desktop there and Firefox do work perfect in any linux installation. Not to mention that for 7$ per month, you can find really powerful vps running linux. Why don;t you try it?

Maybe because he's a "digital marketing manager, with less IT knowledge"?

Unfortunately, the software/script I use is for windows. For example it imports/saves data from c:/sometings/blahblah.csv and so on... So I am stuck with windows. Otherwise yes I would change to Linux in a blink of an eye.

The cores are visible on the screenshot in my request:
    https://gyazo.com/f4ca373e7616fdbd4bb8aac2aadc434d (2.2ghz ES-2660)

    About BuyVM slices:
    "SLICE 2048
    ½ Core @ 3.50+ GHz
    Fair Share CPU Usage"

Khm... I am afraid my 100% CPU utilization would not be considered as fair. :-D

  • If you increase a little bit your budget (10€ per month) you can use this: https://www.netcup.eu/bestellen/produkt.php?produkt=1769
Two powerful really dedicated cores, 6 GB RAM, unmetered fair share traffic @ 1Gbit, 40GB SSD or 320GB SAS HDD, option for extra ipv4 and a /64 subnet.
I use it for production state for several months now and I have to say I am impressed, have installed even proxmox (LXC virtualization) on it and splited it to several vms!

I have contacted them yesterday, so far no response. (support only from Mon to Fri.) :-)
    Thank you for the tips!

I am looking on the netcup website but there is absolutely no indication which Linux will I get, or what are the options I can choose from? Also when I try to place the order I can't choose the preferred OS. Anyway, I guess they have plenty available.

They have 3 different versions of windows (trial 180 days): 2012 R2, server 2016 evaluation 180 days and something they call "treiber" (means "driver", I guess it's for custom install or something like this).
But you can also attach via ftp your own image and boot from that, like attaching a bootable usb to your pc! You upload the iso, qcow2 or raw file to a ftp account you geto automatically from your control panel (the ftp space resets after 24 hours of uploading, plenty of time for your installation).
You can proceed with install using a vnc client thru their control panel, so, you have all you want there!
Their support for sales is working German office hours. If you have any question that I (as a client of them) can answer using my experience, ask me. Also, @Falzo is an expert on them and, I am sure, for almost every German provider out there!
