One of the worse things Ubuntu did was drop Gnome. Gnome 3 even without Ubuntu's support was leaps and bounds above Unity.. They only adopted Unity so they could try to sneak into the mobile market and bring everything in house so they could try and capitalize on it even more. Sure I can understand why they wanted to do that, but it doesn't change the fact that the GUI is literally the most important aspect of the OS to new users. You can't just chuck something established for a resource heavy buggy poor excuse for a GUI that Unity was!
FVWM95 FOREVER!
lol careful, your showing your age. People might start expecting you to act like it ;D
Ugh. Why, Amazon, why?
Norton Commander, baby.
I think you mean Midnight Commander.
They really should know better by now.
That fancy Linux stuff won't run on my '286, man.
In every way.
The only GUI on *NIX that can compete with Windows is Mac OS X.
As I figured, @Clouvider is a PDF apologist.
That is usually because they have IT people who known Windows and only Windows.
@Clouvider I personally prefer desktop Linux to Windows, and have done for a long time. For one thing, you have a wide choice of DEs and can choose one you like. In my case I use XFCE because it is configurable, but easy to configure and lightweight.
