  • htop 2 shows I use more than physically available. Can this be a "bug" with openvz?

  • this seems to report some actual usage, otherwise on 16.04 it's now impossible to get an idea.

New cmd, use rm -rf / for old style list of files.

  • OK,
anyone can share their free and htop output on 16.04?

  • Oh ffs you got your answer like 3 times... Its using ram for disk caching...

..not to mention it's OVZ based which completely changes what these numerics actually mean.

Who answered why htop shows more ram usage than there actually is? And who answered how someone is supposed to interpret and/or use the old 64MB RAM VPS post?

We're not here to teach you memory management with your fingers planted firmly in your ears. You could possibly try Reddit, or Serverfault if you actually want to learn something- but being that you can't read our simple responses, you're likely to bomb out there, too.

    Perhaps no one.

I've never set up OpenVZ as a host, so I'm far from knowledgeable about it, but my guess would be that htop is showing burstable RAM. But this is just a guess. See, for example:

    https://serverfault.com/questions/618520/vswap-vs-burstable-ram-for-openvz

Edit: See also this old LET thread:

And you go learn how to respect other people. Every thread I read there's you making fun or appearing superior to whole world.
I'll go somewhere to learn things.

If someone who has been told multiple times how to research and interpret, and adamantly refuses to- why should they be given any more respect than those who only exist here to try to shill their wares every few weeks like a boot sale at an abandoned shopping centre?

This is one of the few forums I've been on with accounts dormant since 2013, which suddenly come alive, and start spamming whatever it is they're trying to sell for their fiverr purchased abandoned account, and it's just status quo.

If I'm out of bounds, go ahead and kick me to the curb. I won't apologize for being harsh on someone who isn't listening just because they've got a 6 year old account.

  • You are so hideous! Come over and I will spank your ass, you cheeky scoundrel!

@Amitz Well, OK, but this time I'm starting the timer before I leave, because traffic is going to be hell across the Atlantic this time of day.

  • No flimsy excuses, young man!

No excuses, just higher bills. The anti-DDoS isn't going to pay for itself!
