Web Stats/ Analytics

I have around 200+ domains which I am parking currently on my servers running VirtualMin. I wanted to get some Analytics setup. I saw Google Analytics, but, it requires each site to be registered individually.

a. Is there a way in which I can batch add sites to Google Analytics?
b. If no, what are some other alternatives to Google Analytics which can offer a simpler way to add and track multiple websites analytics?

  • Just make them redirect to maindomain.com/?track=somedomain.com

any web-based alternatives to Google Analytics?

  • You can host your own, not sure how long setup is
    http://piwik.org

the closest to GA in terms of look & feature is http://www.openwebanalytics.com/
I found it better than Piwik

  • I use piwik for all my analytics and it works great. Came to know about Open Web Analytics from this thread, but the latest release was more than 1 year ago. Is it still being developed and supported?

  • I've used both Open Web Analytics and Piwik, and I found Piwik to me more actively developed. And it has awesome features like live overview (see where people click and such), and the "flow" diagrams (incoming traffic from where, outgoing to were per page) are also very nice.

I provide a free hosted Piwik: https://raymii.org/s/static/Hosted_Piwik.html - it runs on a 512MB LEB, and in the past one of the 2GB servers I used to have (way back) had trouble with OWA and 3 websites. Piwik handles +80 with ease.

Piwik's pretty good, although it uses JavaScript so won't work for visitors who disable that. If it's a busy website make sure to setup cron and disable automatic stats calculation.

  • i just uploaded piwik. lets see how it goes. Most of my domains are parked domains, so i am not sure if it will be too much traffic (except for a select few)

For OWA, i have heard there is no current development.. is it true? Last update was from 2012.

It also has an "tracking image", if you look at your generated JS code. It does not support all the advanced spying features, but it does count basic things.

Piwik is quite good and if you have programming experience you can without too much work make an API to auto create the sites.

  • I am using virtualmin and I added the Analytics module. I gave the url where my piwik is installed and siteid. But, i do not see the tags auto generated for tracking... what am i doing wrong here?
