Loopia buys City Sites

This might not be "big" news internationally, but in Sweden, City Network/City Sites and Loopia are major hosting providers.

The Nordic hosting provider Loopia, which is part of the Visma Group, with a revenue 2016 of more than $1 Billion USD (almost 8 billion NOK), has bought City Sites, which is City Networks brand for Shared hosting and domains.

City Network will focus on more "enterprise" customers as it seems:

City Network is a global provider of IT infrastructure services. In recent years, we have had a strong growth in our cloud and security solutions through our service City Cloud. We are now choosing to focus all our attention into these areas.

Considering that Loopia was just hacked, many customers are abandoning the ship and some other Swedish providers have launched campaigns trying to capitalize :)

More info from City Network/City Sites:

For me, this means that all of my domains with City Network will be moved elsewhere.

Internationally, nobody has heard of either.

  • Loopia hasn't had the best of reputation when it comes to shared hosting.
Nice and good support but slow and/or overloaded servers
