Hi @francisco We want Asian Pony

I'm @francisco buyvm client since 2011 and today i have 4 active pony with them. I still remember the day they were still in San Jose and i like they can solved some problem with the pony power. I recommend their services to my friends and they happy with it.

But since today many of my (and also my friends) clients and visitors come from Asia, i would like to know their plan to release Asian pony. I know for Asian pony price will higher but it doesn't matter since we all love good stuff.

Thanks @francisco for your good services at all specially for your slice.

    Hello,

    This should've just been a PM :)

I'd like to do something in Asia but for now I'm preoccupied with a refresh to our storage product line. storage changes are very involved & expensive so I need to make sure all hands are on deck for it.

I, too, want an Asian pony, @Francisco. I'm not into French foods, so don't tell me to get a slice. TIA.

  • Asia is... complex...

For most it is better to stay out of it, especially with an EU/US only background. It is a complicated market with entirely different rules, especially around negotiation (-> save face and so on).

Spotted. You neever eat up French food. WTF, slice is not a word in French Cuisine, just a word stolen from Tennis :D

It seems to make that much more sense to tear into dead horse than to cut it. Also, French baguettes are literally made of concrete, so slicing is not an option.

  • Thanked by 2Francisco Trav
  • @FredQc Sexy double sense ? :D
Sry but this one is better

  • I must be the only one who reads it as Asian porn.

Only if you deal with chinese.. others won't care even if you "dont give them face" during negotiations.

Can anyone explain the connection between buyvm and the pony? (Or is a stallion?) It must go back to prehistoric times ...

    I'm more confused than ever...

In what way does Pony relate to servers?

  • is he talking about the special edition VPS that came with 4 free ips ?

All of the original team members were in a group call one weekend and Aldryic was watching Full Metal Panic. That part came on and he near lost it cackling about how hilariously silly it was.

From then on out whenever we'd have a group chat or whatever, he'd randomly just go "....Pony.".

When the company started to grow some legs we decided to continue the meme with things.

Well yea Asia is large but most countries are... not too relevant in most ways....

Aside of CN: Japan very much (but they forgive foreigners a lot also, never was there or planning to but seems popular with my friend circle). Taiwan very similar to China (but more understanding), HK somewhat as well depending on culture circle you deal with.

Not sure for India but Pakistan has similar also, although islamic (criticism bad, family values etc. - less financial like China, or "Business"). Indonesia probably also due to islam.

Combine these and you get a majority of economic power in Asia, which follow in this things similar paths for various reasons.

Then you have haggling which is in the medium market segment (let's say less than a cage but more than single server, which is covering most here including BuyVM) is just not much common in EU/US, and cash on table solves things easier while it seems rather sketchy in US.

Bluntly, in some Asian countries you are outright dumb to pay list prices or only negotiate 10% discount because it is culturally rooted/expected and in some you get massive discounts for pre-paying N years which at Viettel or Indosat is now not really in any danger of bankruptcy any time soon (unlike $gvh)...

NOC people tend to speak not much english in some countries which some ISPs do not like to tell you (so, overall, group as "shady business practices") etc. etc. - not like you do not have that in EU/US but more rampant and less (especially legal) recourse against most in Asia.

That sounds far worse than it is until you sign a contract with a good looking (and large financial) ISP in $asia which fails to deliver BW expected or services promised but holds server hostage until you pay $whatever_made_up_fee to have someone pick it up to move... true story bro
