I just got a new XEN PV VPS with 1 CPU core, 1GB RAM, and 2GB swap.
Sounds great, right? But the UNIXBench final score comes out to a mere 40.6!

Isn't this really really bad in comparison to other VPSs?

Thanks,

What version of unixbench are you using? And yes, it is really low, I get 600 on my $19 /yr AlienVPS

  • Which version of Unixbench?

If you haven't already, have a look at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=924581

Use the same version and take note of the suggestion to disable disk I/O testing.

Lot's there to compare yours with.

  • I'm running unixbench-4.1.0-wht-2.

Is this an HVM based VM?

L54xx don't handle HVM/KVM based solutions very well and give meh performance.

EDIT - Nevermind, saw the PV. That's odd then, PV plays fine on the 54xx's

Use 5.1.2, since that's what people use now and see what you get

As noted on the WHT link above, "The old Unixbench 4.1-WHT variants produce poor results, especially on Xen environment."

  • Ooops! Silly me for using such an old version. I'm now retesting with 5.1.2...

  • My new final score is 203.0. Still not too high, but better than 40!

  • @bill32, I know where you got that! Here is mine. http://i.imgur.com/Y1XMH.png

I have 8 cores because I asked if I could pay extra to have 8 guaranteed instead of 4 with 4 burst or whatever. It doesn't show you as a referral for me though... it did earlier today but not now. You used my link from that other thread right? :( FML

I'm pretty sure referral/affiliate links are looked down upon here..

  • @Naruto: I tried to buy a VPS with your link but my credit card didn't work (payment gateway was not responding). After an hour with their support, I reset my browser and finally it worked. Sorry it didn't go through :S

    Start here and scroll down. Even if they're not allowed I was only asking due to the previous relevance. He was totally under my pre-existing link and he apparently did buy and now I has no referrals. D;

It's okay... things happen. At least now I know they didn't remove it themselves.

  • @Naruto: it says you have 1 core..
